I would just like to point out that I am not the only person who feels this way about babies. I did think the protein count would be higher, though… (Thanks to Nick for the link!) Read more
Italy’s first atheist bus is on the road! Intermittently, it seems. This can’t be a good sign: ”By pure chance,” a member of the Italian atheists association said wryly, ”the vehicle left the depot bright and early but had to go straight back because of a ‘curious’ problem with the batteries”. … After repairs the bus started out on its route again and is set to spread its message around the northwestern Italian city for the next month. I hope… Read more
Bananaman and Crocoduck-proponent Ray Comfort’s has a new book out: You Can Lead an Atheist to Evidence, But You Can’t Make Him Think. I read through the first chapter on Amazon. I’m sure you can’t wait to read some excerpts: When someone becomes a Christian, he immediately cares about those around him. He cares about those unwanted in society — the poor, the bad, and the ugly (those who lack what society esteems). This is because God put His love… Read more
You may want to sit down for this. This morning, I saw myself on a pancake: This must mean I am God. Victory is mine! It can be yours, too. Just upload a picture, decide how you’d like your image to appear on the miracle spectrum (ranging from “super subtle” to “super obvious”), and save! If you post your image somewhere, feel free to link to it in the comments! (via The Generator Blog) Read more
Definitely not Jehovah’s Witnesses. But yay for Buddhists! I want atheists to be included on the list. Let’s blow away the competition on which group of people is most closely aligned with reality. The Pew Research Center says more about evolution. (via The Daily Dish) Read more
Hey, it’s your buddy Ron Gold. I was reading how Boston College, a Jesuit, Catholic school, recently filled their campus and classrooms with Catholic symbols in a stealthy fashion: Students and faculty returned to campus after winter break to find that Boston College had quietly completed, without announcement or fanfare, an eight-year project to dramatically increase the presence of Roman Catholic religious symbols on campus. The additions are subtle but significant, as the university joins other Catholic institutions around the… Read more
Since Valentine’s Day was yesterday, a lot of colleges across the country had their annual performances of Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues. I’m just curious. Given the nature of the monologues, has any Christian college ever staged a production of the show? I can’t imagine they would, but perhaps I’m wrong. Read more
Here’s a sweet necklace to give someone as a gift 🙂 It was made by Surly Johnny and Surly Amy at Surly Ramics, who say: Atheists aren’t evil or immoral; they are lovely people who should have cool jewelry to wear. This necklace is for atheists. 🙂 You know, my birthday is in two weeks… Read more
I actually have a day job that involves teaching high school math. Then I have an afternoon job that involves coaching a bunch of students on my school’s Speech Team. It’s really competitive in Illinois and the season began back in October. (Blogging is the late-night job that pays exactly none of my bills.) Anyway, as you read this, my kids are competing at their Sectional tournament. There are 14 different events. In each event, there are approximately 12 competitors… Read more
A few years ago, President Bush said he would create a $700,000,000 “Compassion Capital Fund” which would launch faith-based programs in inner cities. … The initiative was supposed to help churches pursue their “focused and noble mission” of stamping out teen pregnancy, drug addition, illiteracy, and homelessness. It was pledged but the money never appeared. More recently, that same Compassion Capital Fund was mentioned in the House version of the economic-stimulus bill. While the $900-billion stimulus package being considered in… Read more
