Michael, a reader of the site, is taking the lead in a project I mentioned on here earlier: An Audio Tour of the Creation Museum. This would be a collaboration of anyone who is visiting the museum next week (and possibly people who have visited in the past or who have comments to add about the exhibits in the museum). The Audio Tour would include the actual science behind various events depicted in the museum (and maybe a funny comment… Read more
Agnostics make the ultimate sacrifice: That’s just a teaser to a longer clip that’s hilarious and worth watching. It asks Christians if they actually believe the Bible is true and whether they’re willing to follow through with what it demands in certain areas… It’s from The Chaser’s War on Everything, an Australian comedy show: (Thanks to Ashley for the link!) This is everything I’ve ever wanted all rolled into one: Cake and babies. It seems getting your sonogram put on a cake is the new trend for cool people. This just makes me want to have my octuplets even sooner. (Thanks to @MerrieMelodyxx for the link!) Read more
I’ve mentioned before how atheists are atop the leaderboard at Kiva — a website that “allows people to lend money via the Internet to microfinance institutions in developing countries which in turn lend the money to small businesses…” It’s a wonderful charity. The 5,000+ members of the Atheists, Agnostics, Skeptics, Freethinkers, Secular Humanists and the Non-Religious group have given over $763,000 in loans! And Kiva Christians are in second 🙂 But here’s a fun twist: If you sort by category,… Read more
Jesus is super-athletic. Who knew!? Anyone else besides me afraid of heights? Somehow, I can do roller-coasters, though… (via Cyanide and Happiness) Read more
I can’t decide between Richard Dawkins, Satan (who looks suspiciously like Dawkins), Prince Philip (who looks like Dawkins if he lost an arm), or Tom Cruise (who looks like Dawkins if he gained an arm and a dose of crazy). Oh no! The Flying Spaghetti Monster is also on the list! And Nothing! And Science! I don’t know what to do 🙁 (Thanks to Christopher for the link!) Read more
Last we heard from Simon Singh, he was preparing an appeal in his case. If you recall, Singh was being sued for libel by the British Chiropractic Association because he had written an article trashing the supposed legitimacy of chiropractics. There’s an update on the case and it’s not a good one: … the Court of Appeal has refused Simon Singh’s application for permission to appeal (PTA). … There are no further details yet, including reasons. … Simon Singh has… Read more
Just days after learning about the death of atheist benefactor Richard Leroy Walters, I came across the obituary of Gerald Gardner, who died last week at the age of 83. He is noted for “[providing] the statistical underpinnings for the landmark Supreme Court case that resulted in the prohibition of sex discrimination in newspaper want ads.” That’s awesome, but I had to smile again when I read the last paragraph: Ms. [Jo Ann] Evansgardner, his wife, who holds a Ph.D…. How many atheist rappers are there? If you said “One,” you’re wrong! I was surprised enough to learn about Greydon Square, but he now has competition. This song below is called “Brainwashed” and it’s by Charlie Check’m: Check’m’s new album is Listen Without Fear. I do miss the cheesy nature of his video for “Roll With An Atheist”: I *totally* should’ve been one of those background guys… Read more
Jen has read the mind of all 250 Creation Museum trip attendees. The other parts can be found here. Too bad museum founder Ken Ham won’t be there on that day… oh well. Anyone else think Jen should draw an atheist graphic novel? I can see it now: The enemies throw consecrated communion wafers at PZ Myers, but he eats a copy of Unscientific America to get the strength to defeat them. And somewhere in there, Ben Stein appears as… Read more
