The presidential election is just under 200 days away and the Freedom From Religion Foundation is starting a billboard campaign aimed at preventing the “folly of theocracy”: That “God Fixation Won’t Fix This Nation” billboard is going up in Denver (twice) and Colorado Springs (once). In other words, not far from the headquarters of Focus on the Family and Ted Haggard’s former church… “This is the launch of our election-year caveat,” says FFRF Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor… … “God fixation… Read more
In the latest Humanist Network News, there’s a debate on that topic. Kaitlin Cottle and Gayle Tyree, both students at the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, argue that Humanists shouldn’t support porn: These singular and physically dangerous expectations for female beauty and sexuality that are perpetuated by pornography suggest that the value of women lies in their “use.” If we can recognize that female pleasure in porn (and consequently, society) is marginalized, we can understand how our culture has reduced… Read more

Blogger Mitchell just came out as an atheist: There, my secret is out. I am an atheist, and I have been since the first time I read the bible, cover to cover, after I was given my own copy in Sunday school. I’m a skeptic by nature (not to be confused with a cynic), and the book just didn’t provide me with the answers that I hoped it would. I read the bible again as an adult — same reaction…. Read more
Producers from Bravo’s successful “Real Housewives” series will soon be searching for a cast of Californian Christians for a new reality show, according to Huffington Post. The producers are said to have been inspired by ABC’s show “GCB” (based on the book Good Christian Bitches) and told Huffington Post that they think featuring religious women will make it similar to “Housewives” but different enough with the religious angle that another network will want to buy it. What do you think?… Read more
