Thanks to The Onion. The byline reads: By Bonnie Nordstrum Polytheist I’m In An Open Relationship With The LordWith Jesus as my personal Savior, I felt like I had it all. But then we hit a rough patch, and before long, I was beginning to question both my… [tags]atheist, atheism, The Onion, Christian, Jesus[/tags] Read more
A Reasonable Atheist never read much of the Bible growing up. His excuse: he was a Methodist. He’s finally going to read it, though. But he has a slight dilemma: Before I start however, I come to an important question. Which version of the Bible to read? There are lots of translations, so it might be difficult to choose. I could go with the most common one, the KJV. I asked an Episcopal friend of mine, and he suggested the… Read more
The Beliefnet interview I did has been picked up by some pretty top-notch blogs! The Freakonomics blog named it one of today’s FREAK-est links! One commenter there says this: It’s nice to see a tolerant atheist. Most of the atheists I know, especially the people who play an atheists on-line, are less tolerant than a taliban warlord. Yeesh. Things don’t get much better at The Huffington Post, where commenters said the following: Mr. Mehta better watch his rear end while… Read more
Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak is promoting the city’s growing economy and “pledged more than $11 million in workforce development and economic development strategies in 2008.” What is included in the plans? $4.7 million dollars of small business financing tools, including innovative loans with no interest to business owners whose religious beliefs restrict them from receiving traditional interest-based financing. What’s that again…? The mayor’s website says this: The Alternative Financing Program offers profit-based financing to Minneapolis business owners where no interest… Read more

Someone call the ACLU. We cannot stand for this. You’ll never believe what Dale McGowan saw at his daughter’s school the other night. I am neither making this up nor exaggerating its appearance. Much. The actual medium was dry-erase markers, not tie-dye, but that is amazingly close to the actual appearance of the glorious crux splendidior on the whiteboard in my daughter’s public school classroom. And what a cross it was! Every color of the rainbow! I’d have burst into… Read more
Apparently, people in Brussels find that image of Jesus offensive: Catholic bishops in Belgium have protested a TV ad depicting a pot-bellied, hippy Jesus performing miracles and picking up scantily-clad girls up in a nightclub, a church spokesman said Friday. He’s also drinking Jack Daniels. The ad (which you can watch here) is a promotion for Plug youth television, “the coolest thing that even Jesus, with all his powers, could hope for.” Church representative Father Eric de Beukelaer said this:… Read more
In Madison, Wisconsin, a flyer was sent home with nearly 2,000 elementary school students that read: “Plant the Seeds of Faith in Jesus in Your Child at our Sunday school.” The Freedom From Religion Foundation is, as usual, on top of things: In response to Ginsberg’s complaint, the Freedom From Religion Foundation is asking the Madison district to change its policy and eliminate the distribution of non-school-related materials. In a letter to Rainwater released Tuesday, Annie Laurie Gaylor of the… Read more
A while back, I posted Minnesota Atheist August Berkshire’s list of the 18 Unconvincing Arguments for God: He has now updated the list with a few new entries, so the updated version of the 21 Unconvincing Arguments for God are below. If you’d like to download a nicer PDF version, you can do that here. To reiterate what I said in the original posting, August has said the list was written in order to give Christians (and those of other… Read more
