This absurd quotation’s bothering me, and since it is my duty to fix the Internets, I wanted to address it. Allahpundit of Hot Air says the following regarding the Atheist Bus Campaign: The good news: They exceeded their fundraising target by 2,700 percent. The bad news: They totally wussed out by tossing “probably” in the slogan. The worst news: They couldn’t think of anything better to do with £135,000 than buy dopey ads on the side of a bus. No… Read more
This weekend, for the fifth year in a row, the leaders of nearly all the major atheist/humanist organizations in the country will be meeting in Washington, D.C. to discuss ways to collaborate, share resources, and decide best methods to share our message with others. As soon as I fight off this crazy headache and cough, I’ll be on my way, representing the Secular Student Alliance. (I’m so sleepy right now…) As always, I’m hoping we can work on further ways… Read more
It’s already the 100th anniversary for Gideon Bibles. It’s also the 15th anniversary for Mooresville High School’s Bible class. How did that class begin at a public school? Approaching the Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education with the idea that individuals “need some knowledge of the Bible to become culturally literate,” [teacher Kathy] Black said the program was approved as “MABTA agreed to fund the teachers and the MGSD agreed to furnish the room.” With the community’s monetary help… Read more
Last time, I ran this contest: A recent poll asked 1,600 British children to “name the individual they considered the biggest celebrity.” In first place: Simon Cowell. In second place: God. I think that gives new meaning to the word “Idolatry”… But it raises another question: In what other ways is Simon Cowell better than God? Here are the Top 5 answers (with submitters): 5| When Simon Cowell gets angry, he insults you. When God gets angry, he turns you… Read more
The nominees for the 2008 Weblog Awards have been listed and you can vote for some fine websites all over the place. But among the list of categories, I don’t see an important one: Best Atheist Blog. I’m not just saying that out of self-interest. There are tons that deserve recognition and I suspect there are as many atheist blogs out there as there are blogs in many other categories. There already is a Best Religious Blog category, but even… Read more
The Bible Belt Blogger, Frank Lockwood, reported that the Indianapolis Star has decided to stop running its daily Christian prayer, a piece that has been included in the paper every day since 1963. The prayer held a prominent front page position from 1968 – 2000, after which it was positioned on page 2. What struck me about Lockwood’s report was that he seems disturbed by the fact that the astrology column is allowed to remain in the paper. The first… Read more

It looks like Michael Newdow’s lawsuit — against prayer being used in the presidential inauguration — will be heard in federal court. … the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia granted a hearing in Newdow v. Roberts. The hearing is scheduled for January 15, 2009. … “If we prevail at the January 15 hearing, this inauguration will be secular, as it should be under the Constitution,” said Bob Ritter, staff attorney for the Appignani Humanist Legal Center of… Read more
Family Guy’s Seth MacFarlane is clearly trying to court atheist fans with his latest cartoon short: Monkeys Talk About Religion. (I forwarded through the ad at the beginning.) It all makes sense now… Read more
*cue sarcasm* I had a great deal of fun on conservapedia.com today. And, I learned a lot! I discovered that what I have, this “atheism,” actually has several causes. To my dismay, though, there doesn’t seem to be a cure. Let’s go through the list, shall we? The first noted cause is “Moral Depravity.” Although there is no cure for this, it seems I can blame Darwin, and others since him, who used deceit “in a major way to propagate… Read more
