This morning, American Atheists’ Dave Silverman made an offer to Cee Lo Green after the singer altered the lyrics to “Imagine” on New Years Eve: Come to the Reason Rally and sing the song with the line “And no religion, too.” Dave even offered to pay the expenses for the trip. Here’s the clip from Geoff Berg’s radio show: Smart way to capitalize on Cee Lo’s bad judgment. (via Partisan Gridlock) Read more
Larry Taunton is a Christian and the author of a book called The Grace Effect. A large chunk of the book focuses on how awful societies ruled under atheism are. Because apparently those exist… And that brings us to the promotional campaign for his book — a number of billboards in Birmingham, Alabama with a picture of Stalin and the words “Imagine no religion? So did he.” Wow… It takes cojones to do something that utterly ignorant. Taunton thinks that… Read more
These are the big things that come to my mind. What would you change or add to the list? … 1) The Reason Rally in Washington, D.C. on March 24th. With a large roster of speakers already (and hopefully bigger names to come), this has the potential of being the largest gathering of atheists in our history. Hopefully, the media — and politicians — will take notice. 2) The Books. There will be books coming out by Herb Silverman, David… Read more

Reader Peter sends along this conversation he had recently: I am a physician and had a patient come see me. He is a retired police office but works for a “Church Security” company. “What is that?” I asked. Mostly they are there for petty theft, etc. But there is… Read more

In case you missed NBC’s New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly, then you missed Cee Lo Green singing a rendition of John Lennon’s “Imagine.” Normally, the song goes like this: Imagine there’s no countries It isn’t hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion too But this is how Cee Lo sang it: Imagine there’s no countries It isn’t hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And all religion’s true You can see the… Read more
At the moment, I happen to be re-playing Final Fantasy XIII in anticipation of the soon-to-be-released Final Fantasy XIII-2. While playing recently, one of the characters had the most amazing sound-byte about critical thought and freethought. At least, that’s how I took it. To give a bit of context, the main group of characters are basically fighting against their government which is run by a machine-like race of beings. This group is stuck in a situation where the end is… Read more
When you consider all the contributions people have given to the Foundation Beyond Belief via widgets, our website, and checks in the mail, we’re not far from reaching our goal of $15,000. As Dale McGowan writes: That’s really close to securing a quarter of the modest funding we need for 2012, which has me dancing in my jammies. If we end up raising the additional $2,450 in the next 11 hours, I may just have to sing in them. Make… Read more
