It’s reminiscent of this image from atheistcartoons.com, but The Oatmeal points out how the word “extremist” is pretty relative… The full cartoon is here. Bonus points for “Tesla > Edison.” (Thanks to Ryan for the link!) Read more
On Monday, the Oklahoma House approved a resolution to adopt “In God We Trust” as the state’s official motto. This resolution replaces the perfectly cromulent Latin phrase “Labor Omnia Vincit” or “Labor Conquers All Things” found on the state seal as described in the original constitution and long assumed to be the state motto. Unfortunately, amid the tumultuous business of starting a state, the founders never got around to declaring it an official “motto.” Thankfully, the current House has found… Read more
Gallup has just released its list of the most religious states and the least religious states in the country — all based on how people categorized themselves between the options of “Very religious,” “Moderately religious,” and “Nonreligious.” In 2009, the last time they released a survey like this, the question was “Is religion an important part of your daily life?” and the options were “Yes” and “No.” (In other words, don’t bother comparing the percentages between then and now –… Read more
The video may be disturbing for the first 0:35, but the conversation after that is well worth listening to: The responses you get from Christian apologists regarding why God lets bad things happen to good people are never very good, are they? The caption for the video summarizes it well: If the Abrahamic God is real, then He cares more about the rapist’s freedom to rape, and the murderer’s freedom to murder, than He cares about the lives of their… Read more
Capital One offers a program where you can customize your own credit card — perhaps with a logo or symbol — and then members of a group can get it. There’s a story making the rounds from Consumerist about how someone recently tried to get the A symbol on a card… Read more

Hey, guess who found out about the Reason Rally? Glenn Beck. (I know, I know, you forgot all about him until this moment. So did everyone else.) What did Beck pick up from the soundbytes he heard? Tim Minchin performed a song that used the word “motherfucker” a whole bunch of times. How will the children survive?! (The point of Minchin’s song was even shown in the clip Beck played.) Todd Stiefel donated funding that made the Reason Rally possible!… Read more
With an introduction by Sean Faircloth, here’s Richard Dawkins’ speech from the American Atheists convention this past weekend (just ignore that opening music…): Pastor Mike Aus makes an appearance in that video. It was only hours prior to that when Aus came out as an atheist for the first time on Up with Chris Hayes: There’s also video of Dawkins interviewing Aus in which they talk about the Clergy Project: As always, if you notice a particularly great clip, leave… Read more
