A beautiful rendition of a song telling women to take off those oppressive burkas. The song was written by Helen Kagin and Edwin Kagin and performed at last weekend’s American Atheists convention: Just in case you want the lyrics (PDF): They’re back in their burkas again Women obeying their men No other man should ever see Her eyebrow or her knee They’re back in their burkas again Women are wrapped up by men Protecting their bodies from sin Women must… Read more

She didn’t need an alternative prom, though, because she was told there was already one in the works (run by the school, on private property), and she attended it. But it didn’t go as… Read more

Back in February, I participated in a panel discussion about atheism and Christianity along with my friends Ashley Paramore (atheist) and Jon Weyer (Christian). It took place at a conference called Jubilee. There’s finally video of the discussion — check it out and let us know what you think: As with any event like this one, I go through a lot of Monday-morning quarterbacking about what I wish I could’ve said. It was also philosophy-heavy, which is not my forte…. Read more
Dear Richard, I am a 20 year old student living with my father. He’s a Christian, with very firm beliefs. Recently, he’s been pushing me to join a church. He believes that joining a church would be extremely beneficial to me. However, he doesn’t know I’m agnostic, except for my sister, no one in my family knows. I’ve given him various excuses as to why I don’t want to join a church, but he won’t let it go. Anytime I… Read more
It’s a good question: how much of your religion’s actions do you have to disavow before you feel comfortable just walking away from the whole damn thing altogether? What aspects of your faith did you eschew before you finally stepped away from it for good? (via Atheist Cartoons) Read more

If someone had shown this to me when I was younger, I would’ve become a Christian *immediately*. And by Christian, I mean atheist. Or anti-theist. Or whatever else is as far away from Christianity as possible. I mean, seriously, what the hell was that? And who among the Christians is letting this happen? And who is getting “healed” while singing this song?! Someone’s making this up, right? Right?! The money clip is at 3:27. (Thanks to skepticalProgrammer for the link) Read more
