I’m just going to leave this video right here… The highlight occurs at the 1:28 mark. My favorite part is the fact that they have to go to a specific physical location to pray. Because we all know God won’t hear them if they pray at their own homes… (via MisterDoctorE) Read more
There are a few last-minute additions to the Reason Rally roster and they’re big ones. Here’s the first: Actor/comedian Eddie Izzard will be joining us on the Reason Rally stage! Izzard has appeared in Ocean’s Twelve, Cars 2, and Valkyrie. He is also a successful stand-up comic. More announcements are coming soon… Read more

To regulate or not to regulate, this should NOT be the question. As if the tax breaks, exemptions, special treatment and hypocrisy of the church and government relationship were not enough, now we return to address the safety and welfare of our children. Currently, Indiana law (and the law in many other states) permits religious nonprofits to simply register their daycares, and not actually license them, thus avoiding most state oversight. Most faith-based daycares obviously choose that route, fearing more… Read more
This is a guest post by Andrew L. He is a 40-something business consultant, former Christian, current atheist, and mountain biker. He lives in Denver. … With the recent talk of “crashers” at the Reason Rally, I became curious about what is new in the world of Christian apologetics. So when I saw an interview promoting a faith-defending conference that would feature Lee Strobel, I bought a ticket. Mr. Strobel is the author of the Case For… books that seem… Read more
Last month, I mentioned an atheist-led effort to raise $1,000,000 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The Foundation Beyond Belief along with the philanthropic Stiefel family are eager to make this happen. The Light the Night walks — the banner events for the fundraising drive — take place this fall, and we want to get people signed up now. (Chicagoans, please join me!) Need some inspiration? Check out Todd Stiefel in the video below: Please consider helping out by starting… Read more
Just over a year ago, Colonel Stephen J. Sicinski — Fort Bragg’s Garrison Commander — was delivering the news that Rock Beyond Belief, a celebration for atheists in the military, would be held at a smaller-than-expected venue, would not receive any funding (despite a similar Christian event getting $50,000), and would not endorse the event in any way (despite wholeheartedly endorsing the Christian event). Those revelations effectively killed the event. But what a difference a year makes. Here’s Col. Sicinski… Read more
Everyone is expecting to see Richard Dawkins, PZ Myers, and James Randi (as well as the delightful people of True Reason) next weekend at the Reason Rally, but it appears that another group will be there, too: the Westboro Baptist Church. The “God Hates Fags” people will be in attendance. When I heard WBC would be attending, I was excited for the opportunity to counter-protest them. However, that excitement was short-lived when I learned that the Westboro Baptist Church had actually… Read more
For 170 years now, the Wanganui District Council and its predecessors in New Zealand have been saying a prayer at meetings. Since 2004, the prayer went something like this: Eternal God, source of all wisdom; As we reflect upon all those good things that we enjoy in this city and district, help us to make and keep our community a good place to be for all who live and work here. Grant that through our deliberations and decisions we will… Read more
