Finally. That whole “geology” hoax has been upended… The Grand Canyon National Park has been forced by the National Park Service (whose officials were appointed by Bush) to sell a book claiming the canyon was formed by Noah’s Flood, instead of by geologic forces. While the Park superintendent is against this decision, he has been overridden. A press release issued by Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility (PEER) states this alarming fact about books for sale: …materials are only to reflect… Read more
Scouting For All is the organization that is trying to stop the discrimination of gays and atheists in the Boy Scouts of America. It was co-founded by 21-year-old Eagle Scout Steven Cozza over ten years ago. (The BSA is a private organization and can discriminate as they wish, but it seems to go against the very ethos of the group…) The annual fund-raising drive for Scouting For All is taking place now and your contributions would be very helpful! The group put up their pictures and toasted the departed… Read more
Happy New Year, everyone! In celebration, go adopt a nun. One nun runs for $160/year. She will pray for you in return. So, to recap, the atheist gift list currently includes: The Evolution vs. Intelligent Design Board Game A nun [tags]atheist, Christian, Evolution, Intelligent Design, board game, Catholic, Sister Mary Rinaldi, adopt a nun[/tags] Read more
After my interview with Ellen Johnson, president of American Atheists, VJack asked this question: My main question for Ellen concerns the relationship of American Atheists with other freethought organizations such as Americans United for the Separation of Church and State or the Freedom From Religion Foundation. If she is right about political clout through numbers (and I believe she is), wouldn’t we be smart to combine as many of these organizations as possible? Here is Ellen’s response to this question:… Read more
