Go play Bible Fight. I played once. As Jesus. Satan kicked my butt. (via Deeply Blasphemous) [tags]atheist, atheism, Bible Fight, Jesus, Satan, Deeply Blasphemous[/tags] Read more
The Unbrainwashed made the following comment about the Nightline debate: I actually found [Kirk] Cameron and [Ray] Comfort to be much more articulate than the atheists. They just seem more at ease and able to engage in a discourse more readily than their atheist counterparts. That’s not to say that their arguements are valid, just that the presentation of their inane ideas makes them seem more credible. Now if Dawkins or Harris was there, I surely could not make this… Read more
Donna posted her review of I Sold My Soul on eBay at the Skepchick blog– Most of it is an interview; the rest is her commentary. Here’s the upside: … I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to peek inside Christian churhces [sic] without physically attending a church service, and to those who, like me, want to find a less combative way to talk to the believers in our lives and to try, even if it often seems… Read more
Remember the story of the atheist student who taped his history teacher raving about Creationism? Then remember how the school board solved the problem by banning tape recorders in the classroom? Here’s the case in a nutshell: Matthew [LaClair] recorded his history teacher, David Paszkiewicz, making comments in class in September, including remarks that only Christians had a place in heaven, that the Big Bang and evolution theories were not scientific and that dinosaurs were on Noah’s Ark. After the… Read more
My eBay “soul buyer” Jim Henderson will be featured in the Christian Science Monitor tomorrow. He moderated a dialogue with Christians and atheists titled “God – for people who hate church.” 🙂 What prompted this dialogue? Jane Lampman writes: Some Christians, concerned that millions of Americans never cross the threshold of a church, want to understand why, as well as learn what it is in evangelistic efforts that turns people off. Some atheists, worried that polls show they are the… Read more
What was that? That was awful. The editing. The quick cutaways. The posing of questions, but not showing the responses… They did show: Kelly’s comment about Jesus possibly not even being a man. (There were so many decent responses to the question of what atheists do with “Jesus”… this was not one of the better ones.) Kirk Cameron showing pictures of “transitional fossils” we should be seeing… like a literal Bull-Frog. And other things that just proved he never actually… Read more
I had written previously about the low attendance for the National Day of Prayer events. As for the National Day of Reason, there were atheists who gathered to talk about separation of church and state, or who donated blood, but virtually no media covered it (with the exception of a British newspaper). Why is this the case? Tim Stiffler brings this question up at the eBay atheist blog. He also asks why we need a day like this at all…. Read more
ABC seems to have realized discussing atheism boosts the ratings. So they’re doing it again this Friday. On a 20/20 episode this Friday at 9:00 (EST) titled “Seeing and Believing: The Power of Faith,” the show will mention the story of Chuck and Nicole Smalkowski. In a nutshell, here’s their story (via NoGodBlog): … Nicole Smalkowski was expelled from public school on false charges when she refused to stand in a circle on the auditorium floor with the girls’ basketball… Read more
According to the Christian Broadcasting Network: Before the debate began, [Ray] Comfort was pleasantly surprised by his challengers’ parents. “The mother of one of the atheists we debated [Kelly] contacted me. She said ‘I am a Christian. I watch your television program twice a week, and I am earnestly praying for you guys, and thank you for befriending my son,'” said Comfort. “The female atheist – the other one who was debating us – her mother is a Christian,” added… Read more
I got an odd “press release” email yesterday. Why it was emailed to me, I don’t know. But whoever wrote it needs grammar lessons: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania: EXPLOROLOGIST LIMITED, a British company filed suit today, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, against BRIAN SAPIENT, individually and doing business as the Rational Response Squad, for copyright infringement under the United Kingdom’s copyright law. EXPLOROLOGIST LIMITED is represented by Philadelphia lawyer, Alan L. Frank, Esq. of Alan… Read more
