Unlike the spanking that was discussed the other day, this type is intended to punish your children. That’s Joey Salvati with his son (who looks absolutely thrilled to be there). Joey has a website called Spare-Rods.com. He basically gives away paddles (you pay for shipping) so you can spank your children. These paddles are simply my way of doing something to help families where nothing else has worked. Not just counseling and not just saying it is alright to spank… Read more
Apparently it doesn’t take much to become a columnist for the Calgary Sun newspaper. I mean, they hired this guy. Paul Jackson has a lot of say about Richard Dawkins and The God Delusion. Unfortunately for him, it’s almost all wrong. Dawkins is the author of The God Delusion, which has allegedly sold one-million copies, a pretty insignificant number considering how many copies of the Bible, Talmad, and Qur’an are sold each year. Talk about a flea biting an elephant…. Read more

Today’s New York Times’ Science section has three incredible articles dealing with evolution. This one is about how there may be a paradigm shift occurring over how we should view Darwinian evolution (emphasis mine): There is certainly no consensus among evolutionary biologists, but development, ecology, genetics and paleontology all provide new perspectives on how evolution operates, and how we should study it. None of these concerns provide a scintilla of hope for creationists, as scientific investigations are already providing new… Read more
That’s a paraphrase of one of the questions featured in the book Manifesta: Young Women, Feminism, and the Future by Jennifer Baumgardner and Amy Richards. It’s not a new book, but over at Globalizati, we get a snippet from it that could lead to an interesting discussion: After the ladies loosen up around the table, Mary Magdalene would begin by talking about sex workers’ rights, and returning belly dancing to its origin as an exercise for giving birth. Leah and… Read more
Pastor Tony created a list of the Top 10 things people have said to him over the years in his ministry. Some of my favorites: 10. “We have spent our whole lives trying to protect our children from this kind of secular garbage. We entrust you with our kids and you fill them with this? I can not believe that you would let our son watch this. Sports are vial, aggressive and promote competition among Gods people.” Said to me… Read more
17-year-old Sonia Ponce is the only atheist in her family. Many atheists share similar stories, but unlike Sonia, we don’t all have twelve religious siblings in addition to our two religious parents. Sonia shares her story on New York Public Radio. The link also contains a transcript of the radio story. We are from Mexico, and we were all raised as Catholics—mom, dad and all 13 kids. I’m the only witchcraft-practicing atheist. … So I’m the weirdo’ in my family—all… Read more
Youth Pastor Wick is going to be on Wheel of Fortune! When? Sometime in the next couple years. But it’ll happen. And the story of how it happened is just fun to read. (Pastor Wick, if you find a way to mention this site or my book during your appearance, I’ll send you a box of cookies.) [tags]atheist, atheism, Chadwick Anderson, Wheel of Fortune[/tags] Read more
On Saturday night, I did an interview on Chicago’s WGN radio with host Nick Digilio to promote I Sold My Soul on eBay. For anyone who has walked past the Tribune Tower on Michigan Avenue, and seen the street-level studio, you can imagine how exciting it was to be inside it! And the host was great (he had read the book!) Good times were had by all. If you would like to listen to the show, you can download it… Read more
Nearly four months ago, the Freedom From Religion Foundation was in the Supreme Court. Their case was over the issue of whether taxpayers had standing to sue the government when it supported religion in violation of the Establishment Clause. Here are recaps of the case and the day in court and highlights from the oral arguments. Today, the Supreme Court handed down its decision: “Taxpayers have no right to challenge discretionary spending by the executive branch” (according to a press… Read more
