Sometimes, I think religious people purposely provide fodder for the atheists… (emphases mine): The Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary offers coursework in Greek and Hebrew, in archaeology, in the philosophy of religion and – starting this fall – in how to cook and sew. Southwestern Baptist, one of the nation’s largest Southern Baptist seminaries, is introducing a new academic program in homemaking as part of an effort to establish what its president calls biblical family and gender roles. Apparently, it’s the… Read more

The Chicago Tribune runs this great column called “What’s Your Problem?” You write in with your problems and the reporter, Jon Yates, does what he can to fix it. (It’s useful to be able to contact places and say: If you can’t correct the mistake you made, I’m going to write about it in the Tribune and give you bad publicity.) Recently, one woman had issues with a private Lutheran school she worked at: During Jennifer Garrison’s final performance review… Read more

And it’s for a theater company called Perfect Disgrace. Insert your own joke here. The play is called “Porridge,” and Jones, 50, will be playing a role inspired by – himself. Boulder playwright Brian Bauman, a… Read more
I’ll be gone through Sunday night. If your comment needs to be moderated, it’ll have to wait until then. Have a good weekend, and please consider donating to the Secular Student Alliance! You’d be making a difference for young atheists around the country. And in honor of the Duggar family’s 17th child, here’s something to ponder until I return: [tags]atheist, atheism, Duggar, family, Christian[/tags] Read more
When I started college, I didn’t know many other atheists. I wanted to meet more, and so with the help of another friend, we started the first group at the University of Illinois at Chicago for atheists/Humanists/etc. to discuss and debate religious issues. Through that group, not only did I meet like-minded students, I also had the chance to meet Michael Newdow and Dan Barker, both of whom came to speak at UIC. Since our campus group was affiliated with… Read more
