A fan of the Left Behind series gets… umm… left behind. Hilarity ensues. Get it? The whole “left behind” thing is just a bunch of &*%#. None of it is real! For some reason, I don’t think the people in the video and I are finding the same things funny here. Oh well. Still an amusing prank. Dr. Wiley S. Drake, pastor of First Southern Baptist Church in California, did something wrong. He wrote on church letterhead that he was endorsing Republican Mike Huckabee for president. Then he said the same thing on a church-affiliated radio show. That’s illegal. Churches cannot endorse political candidates. So Americans United for Separation of Church and State (AU) is asking the IRS to investigate (PDF). “Although Drake may express his personal views on political candidates,” [AU’s Executive Director Barry] Lynn wrote… Read more
Weekly Surge magazine has a positive article on atheists in South Carolina. There are a lot of quotations from notable atheists and a summation of what it’s like to be non-religious in the state. The first part of the article talks about Eric Heyd, the atheist who (stupidly) wrote “Fuck the skull of Jesus” on his car and was then beaten up. Despite what he wrote, the reaction was far worse and the coverage was despicable. It wasn’t so much… Read more

Wilson (left) with Joe Foley If you do know about Wilson, you’ll still want to read his stance on “The New Humanism”: To Wilson, the New Humanism is no less skeptical of religion than the old, but it is “not so much proselytizing,” he says, “as finding common ground.” He pointed out… Read more
From The Onion: Churchgoer Tips God For Excellent WeekCHARLESTON, SC—Churchgoer Brad Thaden, 48, reportedly tipped God a little something extra Sunday, claiming that the Almighty had done a better job than usual that week, especially with the weather and his children’s behavior. “Hey Big Guy, here’s a five-spot for ya,” Thaden silently prayed while placing the bill in the church collection plate. “If you keep it up, and make sure Mom doesn’t have one of her spells at dinner on… Read more

An article in the Calgary Herald (Canada) states: Despite the popularity of religion-bashing books like Christopher Hitchens’ God is Not Great and Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion, the ranks of self-proclaimed Canadian atheists has remained steady during the last 30 years. This is according to a new paper called “Nevers, Nones and Nots” (DOC) written by University of Lethbridge sociologist Reg Bibby. Bibby, who has been studying Canadian religious and societal trends for three decades, says seven per cent of… Read more
