Teen Atheist over at Diary of a Teenage Atheist was writing about reactions people have when the word “atheist” comes up in conversation. Like this one with a friend currently working on a novel: Teen Atheist: “Your protagonist is an atheist, right?” Alice: “The girl is. The boy isn’t. He’s nice.” Ouch. It got TA to start thinking about atheists in pop culture and how the portrayal of atheism isn’t actually all that bad. She even created categories: The Brilliant,… Read more
A couple weeks ago, Dawn Sherman and her father Rob brought forth a lawsuit trying to block the mandatory moment of silence in Illinois. Yesterday, a U.S. District judge upheld the lawsuit! U.S. District Court Judge Robert Gettleman blocked a northwest suburban school district from following the mandate, and he could extend the ban to schools statewide today. In his preliminary ruling, Gettleman found that the law was vague and questioned how teachers and school officials were supposed to follow… Read more
Thursday is the celebration of the first Great American God-Out! So if you’re a religious person, feel free to try on those Godless glasses for a little while and see the world as us atheists do. Craig saw the invite and doesn’t know whether to click on “Accept” or that button next to it… both are tempting! His noodly appendages are everywhere. RAmen. (via Flumadiddle) [tags]atheist, atheism, Flying Spaghetti Monster[/tags] Read more
Reason Magazine has an article in their upcoming issue called “Say You Love Santa: Pop culture’s war on secularists.” The premise: We’re need to market atheism a whole lot more than we currently do. Where are our versions of the cheap crap Christians sell?! In the article, we learn the following: Richard Dawkins hates Christmas: According to an article that ran in The New York Times last December, the author of The God Delusion celebrates Christmas for “family reasons” but… Read more
If you ever get a chance to give a reading in public, here’s the piece for you. It’s titled: “If sex feels so good, why do I feel so bad?” … close your eyes and think of a guy who is really hot – someone you would really like to go out with. Now imagine yourself with him in a totally romantic situation. Check which one of the following was on your mind. 1. I thought about holding hands, dancing,… Read more
A reader sent this to me. I thought I should edit it down at first because of the length… but on second thought, I’m leaving it as is. The context provided throughout the email is as important to read as the questions the reader raised (I’ve put the questions in bold just to emphasize them): I don’t know if this is necessarily an atheist question, but I recently had an experience that posed a huge ethical question for me. I’m… Read more

It’s one of the best episodes of the show to date. It’s also a wonderful example of both men disagreeing without being disagreeable. It’s only half an hour. You can spare it!
