I can’t seem to find the following in my copies of the Bible… but it’s on the Internets, so it has to be true: … 2 The owner of the vehicle shall always be the pilot, unless leprosy hath taken his legs. The pilot must always wear a safety girdle. 3 He who wishes to have the second-best seat may only declare so after leaving the door of the temple, the tax collector’s house, a den of iniquity, or any… Read more
I spent yesterday in Westerville, Ohio at the Atheist Coming Out Party. It was a blast. I didn’t think I would say this… but I really enjoyed the atheist debaptism ceremony 🙂 More pics and videos of the event will be up on this site tomorrow. (Including one video that will no doubt put the Catholic League’s Bill Donohue in hysterics.) But in the meantime, here’s a preview — A little girl gets debaptised (courtesy of a hair dryer and… Read more
Someone out here must know the answer to this… The Secular Student Alliance has a website: secularstudents.org. Recently, we purchased a few additional domain names: atheiststudent.org atheiststudents.org atheiststudent.com atheiststudents.com If you go to any of those four links, you’ll see it does not redirect to the original secularstudents.org site. Instead, they go to separate URLS with the same content. Here’s the question: If we want to make the Secular Student Alliance one of the top results for people who search… Read more

Last week, I ran this contest: You’ve heard of Yo’ Mama jokes? (e.g. Yo’ mama is so ugly that when she joined an ugly contest, they said “Sorry, no professionals.”) Well, finish this statement: Yo’ atheism is so militant… Here are the Top 5 statements (with submitters): 5| Yo’ atheism is so militant, the Pope says yo’ Mama should have had an abortion. (ubi dubius) 4| Yo’ atheism is so militant, PZ Myers started complaining about your billboards. (Derek) 3|… Read more
Last week, I was sitting in an airport, waiting for my flight to begin boarding. There was a book in my hands, but I wasn’t reading so much as I was just looking around to see what everyone else was doing. A couple came by and sit right across from me — A guy and (presumably) his girlfriend. In the guy’s hand was a yellow book. I only know one yellow book. So I tried to get a closer look… Read more
Rev. Candace Chellew-Hodge is the founder/editor of Whosoever, an “online magazine for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Christians.” She is a self-proclaimed “recovering Southern Baptist.” Her first book, Bulletproof Faith: A Spiritual Survival Guide for Gay and Lesbian Christians, will be published this September. All this puts her in a rather unique position among Christians — she is both one of the flock and one who goes against a belief that has become almost synonymous with the word “Christian” (that… Read more
This Saturday, I’ll be in Columbus, Ohio for the Atheist Coming Out Party! The event is free, I’ll be speaking there along with Edwin Kagin (of American Atheists), and there will be a Mass De-Baptism. … The event will feature talks, social events, and even a “De-Baptism” ceremony for those who were enrolled in religious groups and now wish to disaffiliate from their houses of worship. “This will be a day of celebration and education for anyone who doesn’t believe… Read more
John Smulo is often afraid to tell others about his beliefs. He’s a Christian and it’s hard, he says, to tell others that. Why? He’s boiled it down to five key reasons: It is conversation stopper, instead of a conversation starter. It communicates something other than what I mean. I’ll lose out on potential friendships because of the stereotypes this word conveys. ‘Christian’ is associated with a lot of things, but almost none of them have anything to do with… Read more
