Here’s a nifty story. Jessica Ketola, a “37-year-old mother of four, church music director, songwritin’ daughter-of-a-preacher man” had the chance of a lifetime to sing on stage with Sting recently when he pulled her up on stage with him after hearing her sing a few bars during the soundcheck. But even a preacher’s daughter might need forgiveness for a bit of nervous idol worship. The stage manager didn’t help. “Sting never shares a microphone,” he muttered to Ketola as she… Read more
I recently finished Andre Comte-Sponville’s The Little Book of Atheist Spirituality. This book came out last year and it is now out in paperback. If you haven’t read it yet, it’s definitely worth picking up a copy. I finished it over the course of a few lunches and found it to be inspiring and enjoyable. As a rule, I rarely write anything in books. (Somehow, I feel like I’m defacing the book if I write anything in the margins.) However,… Read more

The Secular Coalition for America wants to know what you’re doing to get out the secular vote in America: They are looking for both individual and group activities that are promoting the visibility and issues of our constituency for possible media coverage. The Coalition is most interested in the swing states, which include Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado, New Hampshire, Virginia, Florida, Nevada, and Missouri. However, if you have a great story from a “red” or “blue” state the Coalition would like… Read more

In 2007, Stuart became vice-president of Atheist Alliance International and led a number of initiatives and projects for… Read more

North Carolina Democrat Kay Hagan is running against Republican incumbent Elizabeth Dole for a Senate seat, as I’ve mentioned on here before. Hagan is currently winning. And momentum is on her side. Much like John McCain’s campaign, when Republicans saw their candidate sliding in the polls, they decided to organize a smear campaign against the opposition. How? By finding a loose association between the candidate and someone — anyone — the Republicans can vilify. In this case, they’ve exploited Hagan’s… Read more
Courtesy of Edward Current, Sarah Palin loses on The $800,000,000 Pyramid: And if you haven’t already read it, here is a incredible take-down of John McCain’s “maverick” image by Tim Dickinson in Rolling Stone. Read more
It’s one thing to be a fundamentalist Christian who takes the Bible literally. But I think this is taking it too far. The complaint: “We are just a group of Christians and we want to hold a church service.” Who is stopping them? Not atheists. Other Christians. Apparently, naked mass just isn’t for everyone. The Dutch naturist Christians, part of a global movement, held their first service in June, when a clothed priest presided over a nude congregation of 80… Read more
