We already know about The Church of Google, but in the latest issue of American Atheist, Tucker Lieberman and Richard Wassersug examine the idea of “Google as God” a bit more seriously (though with a sense of humor about it). The article is short but very interesting — it’s not available at the American Atheists website yet, but Lieberman has a PDF on his website: Yet, in other ways, the Google company oversees its virtual kingdom with empyreal exquisiteness. Its… Read more
This will never get old: Rational people visiting the Creation Museum for the first time and just being appalled by what they see…: … the Museum makes no attempt to explain what evolution is. It does not merely underrepresent science — presumably all museums have to simplify matters for the general public — but instead deliberately sows confusion. Hence the Museum speaks of the “evolution” of animals, planets, the universe and coal, as if they’re all the same thing. When… Read more
I mentioned the story of Erica Corder a couple days ago — she’s the high school valedictorian who submitted her graduation speech in advance to school officials, as their rules dictated. But when graduation took place, she broke from the pre-written speech and talked about Jesus instead. Long story short, the principal made her apologize. She did, then she sued. A court threw out the case. She appealed. The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled last week in favor… Read more
This post is by Jesse Galef, who works for the Secular Coalition for America. He also blogs at Rant & Reason … After reading a transcript of Obama’s speech in Cairo, I’ll admit that my reaction was mostly positive but tempered by a couple points. There were some very good messages of tolerance, shared values, and coexistence. But there was a good deal of focus on how believers in the three monotheistic traditions could come together – often leaving out… Read more
In 2006, Matthew LaClair was a student in the Kearny High School history classroom of David Paszkiewicz. Matthew heard his teacher making some very unusual statements about Christianity: From Sept. 13-15, the class was told that all the biblical prophecies have come true, dinosaurs were on Noah’s ark and all nonChristians belong in hell. He also dismissed evolution and the big bang as nonscientific in favor of biblical creationism, while mocking teachers and scientists who develop and teach these scientific… Read more
Atheists have been making news for having de-baptism ceremonies, But that leaves other faiths out of the fun. YouTuber graaar is Jewish and she has decided to throw herself a nice little personal de-Bat-Mitzvah celebration. It involves an explanation of why she’s doing it and a recitation of a lovely Monty Python song 🙂 (Video starts at the 1:05 mark) Why bother doing this now? As she says, “Baptized babies have no ability to refuse. I had the chance and… Read more

This kid has a great mind: 13-year-old named David Baker has received a patent for his Light Beam Delivery System, a pico projector that fits in a pen casing, and works by combining three RGB lasers with an optics assembly that creates a light ray that is then shined through a rotating disk to the screen. “When the light goes through the lenses,” he explains, “they take each light pixel and shine it onto a screen or wall. The lenses… Read more
One day, I’m going to make an excellent father to my octuplets because of inventions like this: It brings new meaning to the phrase “a bouncing baby boy.” (Thanks to Walker for the link!) Read more
Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard says his team will win the NBA Finals because of God. But President Obama dares to go against that impeccable logic! Obama was on his way to the Marine One helicopter on the South Lawn when a reporter shouted a question. The topic: Who is going to win the N.B.A. championship, the Los Angeles Lakers or the Orlando Magic? “Lakers in six, I think,” Obama said, smiling. The series begins Thursday in Los Angeles. Once… Read more
