The board of the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles did something right this week when they rejected a proposed specialty license plate that would’ve featured a confederate flag: But listed at the very end of this article in the Austin American-Statesman is a paragraph about another proposed license plate going up for a vote next month: Next up for the board in December will be a vote on a proposed plate showing the three Christian crosses at Calvary, with the… Read more

For anyone who sees parallels between Penn State officials not reporting Jerry Sandusky to the authorities and the Catholic Church ignoring the pedophiles within its own ranks, Scott Stantis states the obvious: Read more
Hate group leader Peter LaBarbera is *very* concerned about the victims of Jerry Sandusky in the wake of the Penn State scandal. Not that they got raped. That’s irrelevant to him. He’s just worried that they might have caught Teh Gay: … how many boy victims of homosexual predator Sandusky will end up believing that being homosexual (“gay”) is “who they are”? How many will struggle with sexual identity issues? And how many will be told by LGBT advocates and… Read more

Waverley is a suburb of Sydney in Australia, and the Waverly Council just did something you’ll never see in an American city. They nixed the Serenity Prayer said before each city council meeting and their explanation makes complete sense: [Waverley Mayor, Cr John Wakefield] wants Waverley councillors to focus on good governance and ethical behaviour instead. “Our core responsibility is to act with integrity, to act ethically, on behalf of the community,” he said. … “Some councillors and a large… Read more

A few weeks ago, some Redditors decided to work on a living tribute to Christopher Hitchens. They asked people to submit one minute videos in which they said whatever they wanted to him. The final product is now up and it looks fantastic. What a wonderful tribute to someone who’s had a hand in helping thousands of people rid themselves of religion: Read more
Duquesne University is a Catholic school in Pennsylvania. So is DePaul University, just outside of Chicago. DePaul has a thriving Secular Student Alliance group — the DePaul Alliance for Free Thought — which encourages conversations about religion between religious and non-religious students. They also bring in speakers for the school, question long-held beliefs of everyone, and raise awareness about atheism-related issues for the school population. They’re less interested in “proselytizing atheism” and more interested in educating people about religion and… Read more
