Josh Duggar Was Arrested by Federal Agents Today

Josh Duggar — yeah, that guy — was arrested this afternoon by federal officials. TMZ (which has a copy of the mugshot) reports that Duggar is currently being held in a “detention center without bail.”

The exact reason he was arrested remains a mystery.

If case you need a refresher, back in 2015, Duggar, one of TLC’s “19 Kids and Counting” and the Executive Director of Family Research Council’s FRC Action, was accused of the “forcible fondling” of four of his sisters and another girl (all underage) several years prior. The subsequent reporting confirmed the allegations and it led to the downfall of the family’s moneymaker, though some of the sisters later appeared in their own shows, albeit with far less attention.

The reason we knew all this was because of a police report acquired by In Touch magazine. The magazine said the report had been “hidden” since 2006 but that they got ahold of it via a Freedom of information Act request. Duggar was never charged for those crimes.

There have been a number of lawsuits relating to that report but the substance of it was never in question. Duggar’s brother unsuccessfully ran for the Arkansas State House last year, which brought the allegations back into the public spotlight. Duggar himself checked into rehab after an adult film star said he paid her for “rough sex.”

Ironically, none of that is why he was arrested. The New York Post says that Duggar knew this was coming because it’s been in the works for a while:

It’s unclear what charges he is facing — but his arrest is related to a 2019 Homeland Security raid on his now-shuttered used car dealership in Springdale, Ark., a source told The Sun.

“The family has known that this has been coming for weeks, and Josh has been preparing himself,” the source said.

“Family members are extremely concerned by what is happening and they just want to find out the truth.”

No doubt we’ll learn more soon enough…
