Catholic Priest Spreads Vaccine Conspiracies, Puts Communion in Members’ Mouths

One of the Catholic Church’s leaders in Wisconsin has been promoting policies that aren’t “pro-life.”

But they won’t take any action because we’re talking about Rev. James Altman, who’s been spreading lies about COVID while holding in-person maskless services that could ultimately hurt (and possibly kill) members of the congregation and their families.

The last time we talked about Altman, it was in September, after he made a video claiming that True Catholics™ couldn’t be Democrats. He also referred to climate change as a “hoax.”

Now Altman, the head of St. James the Less Catholic Church, has been caught putting his own church members in harm’s way.

A community member last week shared with the Tribune a photo from Easter Services at St. James the Less Catholic Church where Father James Altman presides, showing a crowded church, and a page from a church bulletin calling vaccines “an experimental use of a genetic altering substance that modifies your body — your temple of the Holy Spirit.”

The flyer, which was posted to the church’s website as of press time and reviewed by the Tribune, states it is “diabolical for anyone to virtue-signal/shame/compel you to take such an experimental drug, making you nothing other than a guinea pig,” and also says those recommending inoculation are “lying to your face.”

“God is still the best doctor and prayer is still the best medicine,” the missive closes.

Apparently, the deaths of about 570,000 Americans aren’t enough to stop pushing conspiracy theories about the virus.

Making matters even worse, you can see in video of that service that about 170 people receive communion in their mouths — another Catholic ritual that ignores social distancing while potentially spreading the disease.

While there are always exceptions like this, the Catholic Church has been fairly responsible in its handling of COVID, at least in the sense that Pope Francis says no one should oppose COVID restrictions under the guise of “religious freedom.” He has also encouraged everyone to get vaccinated.

Altman doesn’t care because he cares more about appeasing conspiracists like Donald Trump than listening to the pope. If people in his congregation die due to his own negligence, so what? He’s not losing sleep over it.

The Diocese of La Crosse has a responsibility to get rid of this guy… but they won’t do it. As they did last year, they simply said they’re working “privately” with Altman to resolve this issue. It didn’t work last time. Why would it work now?
