Let this be a lesson to any of you atheists who have to go to church for whatever reason. Don’t dress up. Unlike what you see on The Simpsons, people don’t do that anymore. Sunday morning attire now consists of jeans and a t-shirt. Flip-flops are ok. And probably Crocs. I don’t know. But nice frilly dress with ruffles? Big no-no. Monica found this out the hard way: … Let me just preface this by stating that when I decided… Read more
From The Onion-like LarkNews: … To ease tensions, the church did what many churches and ministries are increasingly doing: started a “do not pray” list… Hundreds of Muslims, atheists, Mormons and even pagans called to have their names added to the list. Now when prayer requests come in to the church, names are checked against the list before they receive prayer. … Sharon Grumman, a self-described “blue-state liberal freakazoid” says she was furious to learn that a co-worker had put… Read more

Len at Blogesque noticed a slight problem when he was looking for Christopher Hitchens’ website. Google seemed to turn up some non-personal results. (Granted, there is a website with Hitchens’ published works, but it doesn’t look like a personal site.) Then, Len tried to manually type in christopherhitchens.com… and then christopherhitchens.net… and so on. All the extensions he tried seemed to be owned by someone who was not Christopher Hitchens. So he bought one of them for himself. And linked… Read more
Me: Dad, I’m going out of town next weekend to an atheist conference. Dad: More atheist stuff?! Always the atheists… Me: Yep. And I’m going to Canada next month to talk about the book. Dad: Just quit all your atheism stuff. Me: You’re right. I’ll quit tomorrow. Dad: And what’s this book that came in the mail? Me: Yay! It finally came! It’s Unaccustomed Earth. Jhumpa Lahiri’s new book. She’s amazing. And she’s brown. Remember, you saw The Namesake movie?… Read more
I was hesitant about linking to this webcomic… I mean, it features a dead baby. And Jesus. And God — All three of them together. Like a warped Holy Trinity. But really, how often do you see that? So I’m obligated. (Umm… Blame Cade for sending the link.) Actually, the first few panels make the whole comic kinda depressing despite the punchline. This picture makes me laugh much more. Barack Obama officially resigned from Trinity United Church of Christ, the former home of Pastor Jeremiah Wright. From ABCNews: Sources tell ABC News that Obama felt that as the campaign continued, the media would continue to focus on the church, to the detriment of the church community, that Obama would be held responsible for what happened in the church, and that the Church would be held responsible for his campaign. It would be best, Obama felt, to simply cut ties…. Read more
This guy’s trying to be me… It’s not like “selling one’s soul” is an original idea, but he’s essentially using the same rules I set up! (Emphasis below is his, not mine) The auction will work like this: 1. For every $10 accumulated I will spend one hour in a church of the winners selected religion. 2. To keep track of my time I will be video logging all of my church visits as well as arranging a way for… Read more
