Jesus speaks a lot of truth to Denver Broncos SuperChristian quarterback Tim Tebow in a sketch from last night’s Saturday Night Live (sorry, international non-Hulu people!): SNL: Please make this version of Tebow a recurring character. To the delight of atheists and non-Broncos fans everywhere, the advice didn’t pay off in today’s game. Read more
Sam Harris offers his thoughts on Hitch: I first met Hitch at a dinner at the end of April 2007, just before the release of his remarkable book god is not Great. After a long evening, my wife and I left him standing on the sidewalk in front of his hotel. His book tour was just beginning, and he was scheduled to debate on a panel the next morning. It was well after midnight, but it was evident from his… Read more
We’ve heard how Lowe’s, after receiving pressure from the (one-man-operation) Florida Family Association, decided to pull its ads from the new show All-American Muslim. Not cool. But now Ted Lieu, a California state senator, has threatened Lowe’s with the “encouragement of boycotts” and an examination of potential legislative remedies if Lowe’s does not apologize to Muslims and run its ads on the show. That’s not cool either. It’s great that Lieu called out Lowe’s for being bigoted and ignorant, and… Read more

Last month, some digital billboards went up in South Carolina as part of the Columbia Coalition of Reason’s outreach campaign: A few days ago, there was a rebuttal to the sign put up by Park Street Baptist Church (in the same location as the atheist billboard) with the words “We Still Believe in God & his Son, Jesus.” According to Pastor Sam Catoe, “We thought this would be a clever way to catch attention and it certainly has.” WLTX out… Read more
[*** There may be spoilers below***] As you all know, Survivor is still the best show on television. (Don’t judge me.) But this season has been especially annoying because three of the remaining six contestants are openly (and loudly and boastfully and frustratingly) Christian. Every time something goes right, they’re quick to thank Jesus. Every time something goes wrong, they just say it’s part of God’s will. Anyway, now that one of the core alliances has made it near the… Read more
St. Matthew-in-the-City church in Auckland, New Zealand is notorious for their fantastic billboard campaigns and their most recent one was right up there in terms of controversy: Not a bad visual, right? Some might say it defeats the notion of a virgin birth, but the church says the ad puts the focus on a “real baby and a real mum.” I’ll give them credit for getting a good discussion going. Unfortunately, the billboard didn’t last very long… it was vandalized… Read more
