Earlier this week, I covered the Auburn University-Montgomery Secular Student Alliance’s vandalized flyers. Since then, there’s been some, ah… creative responses. “The odds against a universe like ours emerging of something like the big bang are enormous… I think clearly there are religious implications whenever you start to discuss the origins of the universe.” — Stephen W. Hawking. Even Mr. Hawking’s who is one of the greatest minds of our time questions the rather ridiculous notion. So what if we… Read more
A few months ago, Secular Coalition for America Executive Director Edwina Rogers embarked on an ambitious plan to launch affiliates in every state before the end of the year. We already have Secular Coalitions in Arizona, Alabama, and Colorado. Today, the SCA is adding two more states to their list: South Carolina and Pennsylvania! The Secular Coalition for South Carolina will sign the paperwork Sunday morning at the Carolina Secular Conference and it will be headed up by Amy Monsky… Read more
I’m attending the Humanists of Florida Association conference in Lakeland this weekend, and I have a slight problem I’m hoping a reader can help with. What a great way to break stereotypes, raise money for a good cause, and have a fun time meeting other students. Read more
Finally, Adam and Jamie tackle the one myth we’ve been waiting forever for them to bust 🙂 Alas, one of the cast members was sacrificed, but that’s the price you have to pay for Science… (Thanks to Don for the link!) Read more
Every year at the University of Minnesota, student groups are invited to “Paint the Bridge,” a tradition in which the groups paint panels on the side of a bridge with their logo, meeting info, etc. This year, the Campus Atheists, Skeptics, and Humanists (CASH) went with something potentially controversial: They argue there’s nothing wrong with this (and I agree): We created this artwork to raise questions about the legitimacy of religious viewpoints. We wanted to do it in a fun,… Read more
