An Australian Channel 7 news reporter, Steve Pennells, recently came to the U.S. to cover a story on Ken Ham’s tax subsidy-milking Biblical amusement park, Ark Encounter, fetching interviews with both Ham and Bill Nye. But if the segment’s teaser is any indication, it seems Pennells wasn’t interested in the facts — rather, he crafted his own sensationalized version of the story. That 40-second teaser led Ham to a blog meltdown earlier today, and pushed us to contact Nye for the full story. As usual, what we found is that Ham assumed the worst and was quick to jump to conclusions. The truth, however, is much more nuanced than he’d like to think. Read more
If ever a Christian needed to be put on blast for being bigoted, foul-mouthed, and violent, it’s this one. Pearl Love, a transgender woman who was riding the Manhattan-bound 4 train last Thursday, was viciously attacked by a woman we can safely assume is a Christian, judging by her cross necklace. The video, which Love captured on her phone, shows the Christian woman barraging her with explicit language, eventually ramping up to a physical attack. (Warning for those of you at work or around children: Among the colorful words used by the attacker are references to Love’s genitalia, descriptions of sex acts, and outright slurs.) Read more
Just hours after first posting about a couple of God-fearing goons who marched into a Target store to startle and harass shoppers over their Bible-masked bigotry, another video has surfaced. This one’s from a Portland, Oregon based group called Portland Street Preachers. This video is far more interesting than the last one because the customers and staff aren’t afraid to talk back.
