Gingrich: Biden Attacks “Traditional” Americans By Flying Gay Flags at Embassies

During an appearance on FOX News Saturday night, Newt Gingrich was complaining about how Joe Biden was somehow attacking “traditional values” by promoting… oh, who knows what.

Since he had nothing of substance to point to, he made up the first decades-old right-wing culture wars talking points he could dig up.

… Every idiotic thing that the Biden administration has done in the first 100 days, you begin to realize — whether it’s threatening everybody who believes in the Second Amendment, or it’s attacking everybody who believes in right to life, or it is attacking people of traditional values who are appalled that this administration would fly the gay flag at American embassies all over the world.

I mean, you just go down item by item and it’s almost like they have a checklist of “What can we do that will really, truly, infuriate traditional Americans?” And I’ve never seen anything like it… I couldn’t imagine any administration which had been this deliberately anti-American, and it’s deliberately committed to infuriating the majority of the American people.

Imagine getting infuriated because American embassies are no longer prohibited from flying a flag you never would’ve noticed in the first place.

To be clear, there’s no rainbow flag mandate at embassies. There’s simply no ban on them anymore. And the “majority of the American people” do not care about this issue at all. More than half of all Americans approve of Biden’s job in office so far. They’re not about to abandon him over some colorful flags at embassies.

But it’s not surprising to see Gingrich try and draw attention away from anything that bothers him. The thrice-married adulterer has been doing it his entire life. In this case, he doesn’t have legitimate complaints about an administration that’s passed COVID relief, made vaccines available to everyone, and doesn’t spend every waking hour trying to be at the center of attention… so he jumps to bigotry. Which is both weird — who are these “traditional” people flipping out over a pride flag? — and unnecessary since there are plenty of actual criticisms he could levy against Biden. (Progressives do it all the time!)

This is all Republicans have, though. They will always jump to condemning any minority group they can for their grievances, blaming them for anything their conservative base will eat up, all while never offering anything of value in place of the policies they don’t like.
