Chris Hansen’s coming to get you. He already got one guy. The first man to come that day was a 37 year old software developer Frank Smith who drove over 200 miles to meet our famous atheist alone here in this house. Online he was calling himself “Ultimate747” and claimed he was a 21 year old college philosophy major. That Atheist Guy’s Blog has a transcript of what happened to poor, unfortunate Frank: Chris Hansen: Hi there, what brings you… Read more
It’s real. How much fun with wordplay can you have with this one? … it doesn’t matter if a base runner is safe—so much as if he’s saved. What are the rules for Evangelical Softball? In the Cape Cod (Mass.) Evangelical Church Softball League, players become ineligible if they don’t attend two Sunday services a month. In eastern Massachusetts, teams in the evangelical league are limited to three “unsaved” players each—and must turn in a roster specifically highlighting them as… Read more
A few weeks ago, I noted my frustration with a local reverend who wrote an error-laden article about how our country is a “Christian nation.” I asked for your help in writing a rebuttal and this was the draft I came up with thanks to your input. It was finally published as a letter-to-the-editor in today’s paper. Here’s what it said: Rev. Vernon C. Lyons is blissfully unaware of our nation’s history when he says we live in a Christian… Read more
A few days ago, an article appeared in The New York Times which included this remark: “This is a deeply religious nation by many standards,” said Mark Rozell, a professor of public policy at George Mason University. “They want their leaders to be believers. They want them to believe in something higher, to have a moral framework as they lead the country.” Lori Lipman Brown, the lobbyist for the Secular Coalition for America, had a letter-to-the-editor regarding that comment in… Read more
Remember that guy who left the Secular Student Alliance an interesting voicemail where he butchered my name and called me an asshole? If not, you can hear it here (WAV). My friend Andy created a remixed version of it, which you can download here. It’s a classic. You’ll be dancing to it in no time. Andy’s remix is a WMV file, by the way. Which leaves room for something visual to go along with the message. Would anyone like to… Read more
I’ve waited for so long to say this. I’m now an Ordained Dude: You can be a follower of Dudeism, too! It’s the “slowest-growing religion in the world.” And if you’d like to know what rules a Dude must follow, you can read them in (wait for it…) Duderonomy. There’s also a list of Great Dudes in History. It’s possibly the only list that includes Jesus Christ, Julia Child, and the Big Lebowski the guy who is “the Dude” in… Read more
A month-and-a-half later, Mercer County (WV) is still looking for a part-time Bible teacher. This is your last chance to show them your expertise! (Thanks to Lee for the link) Read more
Last night, I was invited by Pastor Randy Frazee to speak with him at Willow Creek Community Church. I had a great time and was treated really well by everyone there. It was even more fun to hear Willow Creekers (?) tell me stories about their own atheist/Christian interactions during the book signing afterward. If you didn’t get a chance to come, you can now watch the service online. Just go here and you’ll find the video in the middle… Read more
Richard Hupper was attending a concert near York, PA. At one point, he went inside a restroom. That’s where he was attacked for unknown reasons. [63-year-old passer-by Richard Bentzel] said the attackers came out of a stall and beat Hupper with boards on the face, head, body and arms. Hupper’s glasses were also broken. “He was very brutally beaten with boards. He was caught totally off guard. He didn’t have a chance,” Bentzel said. “He was standing almost like a… Read more
