A prominent, conservative, Republican, Catholic lawyer, Douglas Kmiec, recently endorsed Barack Obama for president. Obama, of course, supports a woman’s right to choose. So Kmiec’s priest retaliated by refusing to give him communion. All for endorsing the “wrong” candidate. It doesn’t matter to me about the Communion. But it is discouraging that even the Catholic church is getting itself entangled in the upcoming elections. The full story (including an interview with Kmiec) can be heard here. (That’s an adjective, not a verb.) Katie Kish (an atheist herself) offers a list of reasons atheists annoy her. My favorite on the list: 5. Intelligence – Yes, we knoooow you’re a scientist. We knooooow you’ve read a million books and written 4. We knoooooow that you know Richard Dawkins. We knooooow that you know the REAL definition of evolution. We KNOW that you know everything about religions. And we KNNNOOOOWW that you know God isn’t real. So shut up,… Read more
Ilana Stern is the new Communications Assistant at Americans United for Separation of Church and State. She’s quickly discovering the type of things you hear and read about when you are in that line of work… During my first week, most of my time has been spent reading up on the Religious Right and tuning in to some Religious Right broadcasts, and trust me, there’s a lot to tackle. [Pat] Robertson, who asserts himself as an unmatched authority on the… Read more
The following piece was written by Edwin Kagin for American Atheists Magazine (May/June 2008). Edwin serves as both the National Legal Director for American Atheists as well as the Kentucky State Director for AA. (I broke the piece up into several paragraphs for slightly easier reading — the original consisted of two long ones.) Good evening Sinners. At high school graduations throughout our country, it is customary for older people to tell younger people what the older people were told… Read more
Not yet scared of Bobby Jindal, the Louisiana Governor and potential vice-presidential candidate on John McCain’s ticket? Well, you should be. An article in The New York Times tells us a few reasons why Jindal is a “New (True) Champion of the Right”: In the Legislature, the climate for a conservative Christian agenda is warmer than in years. Some of that agenda, including a school voucher program for New Orleans that Mr. Jindal calls a “scholarship plan,” is being pushed… Read more
Wrath James White offers these insightful thoughts on why Black atheists are almost nowhere to be found: In these [African American] communities you find more tolerance towards gangbangers, drug addicts, and prostitutes, who pray to God for forgiveness than for honest productive citizens who deny the existence of God. This, for me, is one of the most embarrassing elements of Black culture, our zealous embracement of the God of our kidnappers, murderers, slavemasters and oppressors. It’s also tough to get… Read more
So far, Christians have had all the video game action. Now, a University of Virginia graduate student has created a game for atheists. Think long and hard about what a game like that would have you do… And then check out the actual goal of the game: The object of the game is to stop the spread of Christianity and Islam by murdering Abraham and the authors of the Bible, before beheading Muhammad. *sigh* Atheists piss me off sometimes… But… Read more

Looks like somebody had a bad experience at church: I have no problem with the red words. Not saying I believe them or approve of them, but I think most Christians would stress those things. The black words get out of hand, though. I know the image’s creator is referring to all religion, not just Christianity (just look at the image title: “Religion Vs Reality”). But since the cross is symbolized, and the red words refer to the Christian faith,… Read more
