A hit-and-run accident in Memphis, Tennessee nearly cost a man his life on Sunday afternoon when his vehicle ran off the road, hit a pole, and burst into flames. Several onlookers ran to the car but initially struggled to unpin the man from underneath the steering wheel. Thankfully, though, they eventually pulled the man to safety. Now we can talk about his incredible escape, or the dozen brave strangers who stopped to help him, or how the driver who caused the accident got away. Kentucky’s newly elected Governor Matt Bevin probably isn’t going anywhere near Twitter today. There’s an uprising of Kentucky women who’d like to take a meeting with him on behalf of their reproductive organs, candidly seeking his advice using the hashtag #AskBevinAboutMyVag. Since taking office Bevins has been tightening up on abortion access, having just signed the “informed consent” bill, a law that will require face-to face consultations with a doctor where the woman seeking an abortion must hear of risks and adoption options. The latest, just passed in the Senate, requires women to view the fetus on an ultrasound while the physician details the visuals. A Muslim group in Columbus, Ohio ran a newspaper ad on Sunday in an effort to get the visibility the local media wasn’t offering them. After members of the Turkish American Society of Ohio heard criticism that peaceful Muslims weren’t doing enough to condemn acts of violence committed in the name of their faith, the group took a creative approach to making their stance clear: They purchased a sizable block of space in the Columbus Dispatch voicing their dissent.
