Several of you have sent me this petition at WhiteHouse.gov that says we should require all public officials to be sworn in on the Constitution instead of a religious text. Presumably this would prevent someone like Kim Davis from pushing her religious beliefs onto others when she’s supposed to be working for the government. I’m not a fan of these kinds of petitions to begin with, but this one seems especially useless to me. Read more
You never expect to see any sensible writing about LGBT issues coming from Christian conservatives, but it’s very telling how much they have to lie to make their points. If they were more honest, they wouldn’t be able to gin up enough fear to keep their ignorant readers coming back for more (and giving them money for their ministries). Dr. Michael Brown, a columnist for Charisma, is one of many Christians who puts on this guise of compassion while ignoring what scientists and psychologists say on the subject of sexuality. He says gay and transgender identities can be “cured.” He says he’s not transphobic, but misgenders them all the time. He also calls them predators. A lot of people have been quick to follow and cite @kimdavis917 as if it’s a legitimate account currently run by Kim Davis’ husband. It’s not. It’s fake. I’ll tell you why in a moment. Yet after the account posted a supposed letter Davis wrote from jail, it managed to fool bloggers, a New York Times reporter, a progressive media outlet, and probably most of those 800+ followers.
