Christian Hate-Preacher Reiterates Desire to See Gay People Executed

Last week, Pastor Jonathan Shelley of Stedfast Baptist Church in Hurst, Texas celebrated a gay man’s death at a Pride parade. He literally told his congregation, “I think it’s great! I hope they all die! I would love it if every f*g would die right now… I really mean it!”

None of that is surprising coming from the head of a New Independent Fundamental Baptist church. It’s not the first time Shelley has called for executions either.

But this time there was a lot of public backlash with media outlets covering his words and plenty of people criticizing him on social media. YouTube soon took down his video for hate speech, though they have so far allowed his church’s channel to remain up.

Today, Shelley released a new video. It’s not an apology. It’s an explanation.

After lashing out at critics (hello) who supposedly “make up a lot of lies about our church, or they slander us, or they take things out of context and try to make it seem like we don’t love people,” he went on to show how everything we say about him was absolutely right.

… A lot of people get mad and they say, “Well, why would you want someone who is a man with a man, you know, this unnatural sin, you know, for that to be punished with the death penalty?” Or “Why did God have that?” But you have to understand that the Bible teaches that these people are given unto all unrighteousness. That they hate God. That they despise him. And because of their hatred towards the word of God, they end up being capable of doing really horrible sins — like being a pedophile, like committing molestation.

And I personally believe that all of these sodomites — you know, people that are men with men — are pedophile because that means that they just simply are attracted to children. They’re attracted to these people that are the ages of 17, 16, 15, 14, 13. Even though they’re a grown adult, they’re going after children and very young children, often cases, and molesting them and hurting them. And, you know, anybody that loves children, loves their family, would want this person to be executed through the proper channels.

That’s what I believe. That’s what I teach. I’m not a violent person. I’ve never wished for anybody to be murdered. You know, the Bible makes it clear there’s a difference between putting someone to death and murder. Murder is taking someone’s life that’s innocent, that has not committed any kind of crime worthy of death. When a government takes a criminal that’s been found guilty and puts them to death — executes them or slays them — the Bible makes it clear that that’s a huge difference between murder or wishing someone just to die, just to die.

… I’m doing my best to love my neighbor as myself by believing in all of the commandments that God gave us, not cherry picking the ones that are convenient for me, or trying to twist the word of God into something that it does not say.

See? He doesn’t hate gay people. He doesn’t even want them murdered! He just wants the government to execute them because they’re pedophiles-in-waiting who are out to get your children, and since they’re guilty of some ancient sin, it’s not really “murder” to execute them.

And he believes all this because he would NEVER cherry pick verses from the Bible.

In case you want his whole philosophy in a shorter sound bite, though, here’s another excerpt from that same sermon in which he justifies executing other groups of people.

… I do not believe that children should be just killed just for no reason or that someone that plays video games should be killed for no reason…

In other words, there are times kids and video game players should be executed. But you better have a Bible-based reason for it. Apparently it doesn’t even have to be a good reason. Just a reason.

He seriously released this video thinking it would make him look good.

As I said before, I’m aware that Shelley doesn’t represent most other Christians. My concern is that he’s spreading this hate to a congregation full of wannabe vigilantes. Will any of them snap after listening to him and try to kill people on their own thinking it’s what God wants them to do? Shelley is giving them the justification to commit those crimes without feeling any guilt.
