TB Joshua, a wealthy Nigerian preacher who spent years spreading lies about LGBTQ people, has died at age 57 for reasons that have not yet been made public.
It comes two months after he was finally banned from YouTube for his harmful misinformation campaigns. The leader of the Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) repeatedly told his followers that they could be “cured” of being gay or lesbian — and his methods involved slapping people, shaving their heads, and using other forms of public humiliation. He allegedly told HIV-infected people to stop taking their medications because God would heal them through prayer.
He embarrassed himself, too. In 2016, Joshua predicted Hillary Clinton would win the election… then deleted the post after she lost.
In 2013, at his church’s branch in Ghana, four people died in a stampede when they tried to get his fake “holy water.”
A decade ago, Forbes listed Joshua as one of the wealthiest pastors in Nigeria with a net worth of over $10 million. Given his reach and the spread of social media since then, that value almost certainly skyrocketed.
