Right-Wing Host Slams Morgan Freeman’s Pro-Vaccine Ad Because He’s Played God

We know there are many conservatives who downplay or reject the COVID vaccine for a variety of inaccurate medical reasons. But Gina Loudon and Amanda Head of the far-right “Real America’s Voice” network have a different reason to be angry about it: Actor Morgan Freeman wants people to take the vaccine, and he has a recognizable voice and plays God in movies, therefore he’s somehow desecrating God’s name.

LOUDON: … This just bothers me. Not because I think that he doesn’t have a right to his opinion. Not because I have any problem with him, you know, pitching whatever product he wants to pitch for whatever product he wants to pitch for… Because he’s acting like he doesn’t realize that the reason people trust him is because he plays God in movies! Like, just say it, you know? Or, I don’t know, but I just have a problem with… I don’t know. At some point, God’s got to be sacred somewhere, right? Because we use Him all the time in all the wrong ways. I guess that’s it.

The only accurate things in that rant are “I don’t know” and “I just have a problem.”

For what it’s worth, Freeman played God in two movies (including a sequel). He’s acted in many, many more. And if you think people trust an actor because of his supporting role in Bruce Almighty, then maybe your grasp on reality isn’t as strong as you think.

Freeman even makes clear in the public service announcement that he doesn’t have any real authority on the matter, but if you happen to be someone who cares about what he says, then go ahead and get your shot.

I’m Morgan Freeman. I’m not a doctor but I trust science. And I’m told that, for some reason, people trust me. So here I am to say I trust science and I got the vaccine. If you trust me, you’ll get the vaccine.

Let’s be clear: If you’re only getting your shot because an actor told you to, I’m scared for you. But, hey, if that’s what it takes, great. (It’s the same as people who get the shot to own the libs.)

What any of that has to do with the sacredness of God, I have no clue.

This is just a perfect example of conservatives haven’t nothing substantive to get mad about, so they’ll just make something up out of nowhere in the hopes that the gullible white evangelicals who watch them will fall for it. Their argument literally boils down to: Any actor who has played God in movies shouldn’t be promoting anything that Democrats have also promoted.

Imagine having so few problems that this is what you get worked up over.
