Perhaps desperate for any kind of attention now that he’s been deplatformed from most social media sites, right-wing white supremacist Milo Yiannopoulos says he’s no longer gay, that he’s “sodomy free,” and that he leads a “daily consecration to St. Joseph.”
Somehow, the Catholic Church found a way to get even worse.
It’s all a far cry from the Yiannopoulos who bragged about sleeping with Black men exclusively, treating them as a fetish.
Naturally, he gave the scoop to the anti-abortion LifeSiteNews:
I don’t mean to suggest it’s been easy, just simple: Our Lord endured worse than any of us and promised us that we have to take up a heavy cross each day. Ronald Knox says the Via Crucis shows us the 3 ways we can carry our cross: With bitterness, like the unrepentant thief; with grim resignation, like the repentant thief who said it was what he deserved; or with love, like the Lord, who never minimized suffering but said it would, in God’s time, redeem us.
Secretly, I feel I’ve done enough good in this life to excuse me from earthly penance for past sins. Your readers will no doubt respond, rightly, that this statement demonstrates how far I have to go. The best advice I can give others in my situation is: Check your pride, not your privilege. So often it’s vanity or conceit or self-satisfaction that gets in the way of accepting Christ. Learn to catch it before it takes root, and difficult things suddenly don’t seem so difficult.
…
Secular attempts at recovery from sin are either temporary or completely ineffective. Salvation can only be achieved through devotion to Christ and the works of the Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. St. Joseph is the spiritual father figure of the Holy Family.
I give it about two months before he gets tired of his latest grift. But judging from some of the comments on that website, a bunch of right-wing Christians are already falling for his new act. They don’t realize that “finding God” is a regular step for anyone looking for a redemption story arc — whether or not they actually believe any of this nonsense.
For someone like Yiannopoulos, who’s shallow to the point of being two-dimensional, he knows exactly what to say to win over gullible Catholics. It’s just a different flavor of the same parlor trick he used when he wanted to trigger liberals. It was never about standing for anything. It was about getting a rise out of people.
Now that he’s been deprived of the ability to shock people on major platforms, he’s left to convince the most gullible people in the country that he’s actually one of them. They’re already falling for it.
