You Can Decide the Size of “In God We Trust” on Mississippi’s New State Flag

Back in June, Mississippi lawmakers voted to retire their old racist flag (which had a Confederate symbol on it) and replace it with a new one.

Besides getting rid of the racist symbol, there was just one rule: The new flag had to include the words “In God We Trust.”

The “Commission to Redesign the Mississippi State Flag” received more than 3,000 submissions and has now narrowed it down to five designs. They’re asking people to cast their vote… even though it’s ultimately non-binding.

The Commission will eventually pick its favoriteperhaps swayed by public opinion — and present it to voters for approval in November.

All five designs are fine… but if you need a nudge, let me direct you to this one:

Why that one? Because “In God We Trust” is tiny. Really tiny. Just as it should be if it has to be included.

Right now, that flag is in last place. But anyone can vote. So, internet, go do your thing.

Incidentally, The Satanic Temple has threatened to sue over the religious phrase on the flag, though it’s not likely a challenge would be successful.
