Brazilian Pastor Prays for Another Holocaust to “Destroy the Jews Like Vermin”

It’s one thing for churches to advocate belief in the supernatural. It’s another when they’re literally asking God to bring about another Holocaust — not metaphorically — in order to “destroy the Jews like vermin.”

That was allegedly the case at Brazil’s Geracao Jesus Cristo church, where Pastor Tupirani da Hora Lores urged his congregation to join him in calling for the eradication of Jewish people. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency explains:

“Massacre the Jews, God, hit them with your sword, for they have left God, they have left the nations,” Pastor Tupirani da Hora Lores shouted at dozens of congregants earlier this month… a recording of the event shows. His congregants are heard repeating his words passionately.

“They contrived, went with prostitutes, and when they were told to repent they said they’d do it but they lied,” the pastor said, possibly in reference to the forced conversions to Christianity during the Inquisition.

“God, what you have done in World War II, you must do again, this is what we ask for in our prayers to you: Justice, justice, justice!” da Hora Lores shouted at his church, a small and radical evangelical congregation.

The article notes that the group Sinagoga Sem Fronteiras — Synagogue Without Borders — has reported the church to local authorities in the hopes of charging the pastor with incitement. Even if that doesn’t work, though, the negative publicity could go a long way in stopping these churches and others like it from saying similar things in the future.

For what it’s worth, we did not find the original video on YouTube, or a post about this sermon on the Facebook page of Sinagoga Sem Fronteiras.

Whatever the case, these words are horrifying, so much so that they are almost not worth contemplating with any logic. If not for Judaism, then Christians wouldn’t have a religion. There is no Jesus, believers would say, when he’s scrubbed of His Jewishness, and surely the person who taught others to “turn the other cheek” would have a problem with genocide. The call for violence from this church likely has political roots rather than religious ones. That doesn’t make them any less repugnant.
