I’ll admit it: I didn’t make the connection at first.
When I saw the clip of an angry woman at a school board meeting claiming her children would stop wearing masks in school, I just assumed it was another insane conservative Christian threatening to put other people’s lives at risk.
It’s what they do. It’s what Jesus teaches them. These nutjobs are threats to public health. And this one in particular falsely claimed the pandemic was “over” and that a public school board had no business setting policy for public schools.
Woman wearing a “MAMA” tshirt at the Encinitas school board meeting says her “cubs” will refuse to wear masks this week. “We’re done asking you for permission. The pandemic is over. We are declaring our freedom.”Then she says she and her friends are running for school board. pic.twitter.com/Q5yoLqvLwP

My name is Carrie Boller. You see my shirt. It says “Mama,” and I’m a Mama Bear, and I know there’s a lot of mama bears here tonight. And no one is gonna mess with our cubs, just so you know.
I’m a resident of Encinitas, born and raised San Diegan, and tonight, I’m simply here to tell you to unmask our children. We’re done begging. In fact, we’re done asking for permission. We are going to be unmasking our children today.
The pandemic is over. The parents are done. We’re done asking you, public servants, for permission. We are done. You can all wear your masks. In fact, you can wear two masks and three masks. You can wear gloves. You can have plexiglass. You can do whatever you need to do to keep you safe, but we, the parents, believe we have a choice for our children, and I don’t know who you think you are, that you think that you have more of a say than us, the parents, and our doctors. I don’t know who any of you think you are. I really don’t.
It ends today. We are declaring our freedom tonight. We do not consent to the lies, fear-mongering, and abuse. You all know it’s abuse.
This is tyrannical leadership — poor leadership. None of you are willing to stand up for our children. This is why we are all here tonight — because we’re fed up. We’re done asking permission. We’re done playing games. The pandemic is over. We are done…
See the chairs you’re sitting in? We own those chairs. See these lights? We pay for the lights, not you. And I’m gonna let you know… I would love to run for school board… to replace all of you. So I’m going to promise you tonight that I will campaign against you… I will fundraise against you, and I will make sure that none of you ever serve in a public space ever again.
That batshit crazy woman who plans to spread COVID because she’s too dumb to realize the pandemic is far from over is Carrie Prejean Boller. And more than a decade ago, she made headlines for — you’ll never believe this — saying something wildly stupid while the cameras were on.
In 2009, Prejean won the title of Miss California USA. She was competing for the national title in that beauty pageant when celebrity judge Perez Hilton asked her (a finalist) whether states should legalize same-sex marriage, since only four states had done it at the time.
Her response was no… and yet somehow it was even worse than that:
… We live in a land where you can choose same-sex marriage or opposite marriage. You know what, in my country, in my family, I think I believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman, no offense to anybody out there. But that’s how I was raised and I believe that it should be between a man and a woman.
Besides just being a straight-up bigot, Prejean was mocked for saying “opposite marriage” and for claiming that her upbringing was good enough justification for denying people equal rights.
She also lost the competition. But despite the attention her answer received, she was headed toward a second place finish anyway. Donald Trump, who ran the pageant at the time, even said in an interview that “she would not have won anyway.” Still, the Christian Right loved her and she stepped right into the martyr role, acting like she could’ve given the “right” answer and won, but she chose to stick to her bigot values even if it cost her the crown.
She even told Focus on the Family’s James Dobson that “I felt as though Satan was trying to tempt me in asking me this question.” She later lost her title as Miss California for reasons unrelated to her bigotry.
And that was pretty much the last time I heard her name… until now. Looks like she hasn’t changed one bit when it comes to believing right-wing propaganda.
Today she is Carrie Prejean Boller, married to former NFL quarterback Kyle Boller. She was on the advisory board of Women For Trump and her Instagram page already has a post that calls for President Joe Biden’s impeachment.
So… MAGA cultist, COVID denier, anti-vaxxer, and anti-masker in the midst of a dangerous variant. Checks all the boxes.
People sometimes ask me why I post about these seemingly marginal characters who say crazy things. One answer is because the crazies often get larger platforms. It wouldn’t surprise me if Boller uses her pretend-victimhood and notoriety to launch a serious run for public office, whether it’s the school board or legislature. And at that point, she won’t just be a COVID-denying mother pleading to infect everyone. She would be a COVID-denying mother with the power to put the community at risk.
