Disney Channel Actress Cites Bible in Insane Anti-Mask Rant to TN School Board

In case you ever need more evidence that the Bible can be used to justify the dumbest ideas, former actress Leigh-Allyn Baker spoke at a recent meeting of the Williamson County Board of Education in Tennessee, where she argued against the district’s recently instituted mask mandate.

Her rant went viral this week partly because people recognize her, but mostly because everything she said was batshit crazy. In her mind, masks deprive people of oxygen. Which will be a shock to those of us who have worn masks in public spaces for well over a year now and somehow still found a way to breathe…

… I wanted to tell you that I have two vaccine-injured children and they have medical exemptions… because after the seizures and the hospitalizations, after all of their immunizations, I was granted, obviously, a medical exemption. So my children are those rare children that will just not be able to get the vaccine.

And still, I would never put them in a mask because their brain needs oxygen to grow, which the neurologists can confirm. Anyway, the real part of the clown show is that you all think that you actually have the authority to mandate this.

Because, um, there are these books that I have, and I have them as a gift for you: The Constitution, and the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, and the Federalist Papers, and also the Bible. And these guarantee my freedom and yours and our children’s to breathe oxygen.

The district does indeed have the authority to institute a mask mandate.

I’m more concerned about how this mother is willing to sacrifice her immunocompromised children in order to own the libs, by pointing to documents she doesn’t understand, using science she pulled out of her ass, all while acting like the Bible gives her the right to spread a deadly virus.

All this from a woman best known for playing a nurse on the Disney Channel show Good Luck Charlie.

Even more frightening is how the audience of right-wing nutcases eggs her on and applauds her rant. If you want to know why the pandemic is still going on, look no further than these people. They may not represent the whole community, but they certainly represent the kind of ignorant Americans who have rejected science and expertise in favor of liars who tell them whatever they want to hear.

To their credit, the Board of Education voted 7-3 in favor of the mask mandate for elementary school students, which will last through September and be reassessed near the end of the month. (Masks are currently optional at the county’s middle and high schools, where students are old enough to be vaccinated.) Without those masks, more students will likely catch COVID, forcing the entire district to move to virtual schooling once again. No one wants that if it’s avoidable.

But people like Baker are doing everything in their power to hurt kids. By preventing them from getting an education, who knows, maybe some of them would grow up to become just as ignorant as her.
