Two megachurches in Albuquerque, New Mexico decided to celebrate Christmas by trying to spread COVID to as many people as possible.
Calvary Church and Legacy Church both held services on or around Christmas with packed, mask-optional indoor crowds. They posted livestreams online — just showing that they could’ve done this safely if they wanted to — but one of the churches remove its videos after people began complaining about the violations of COVID restrictions. The other video is still up.
Thankfully, all of the evidence was captured before the Christians could hide it.
Because Bernalillo County is still in the red zone, that means places of worship are only allowed to hold services at 25-percent of their maximum capacity. While it appears both churches far exceeded that limit, it’s unclear just how many people attended.
News station KRQE says that Legacy Church previously filed a lawsuit hoping to increase capacity to 50%, but a judge refused that request… probably because the restrictions were meant to prevent COVID from spreading, not meant to get in the way of worship. That church laughably told the station they “have taken the pandemic seriously from the start, and have prudent measures in place. But…”
Is there more to that sentence? Yes. Does it matter? No.
When it comes down to it, the church leaders clearly don’t know or care about the seriousness of this pandemic and they’re willing to put their congregation and their community in danger because they’re too selfish to simply livestream. And if you think those leaders are foolish, imagine how ignorant you have to be to attend this gathering.
It’s irrelevant that Christmas is a special occasion for them. They could’ve gathering online like responsible people everywhere. They chose not to because they don’t give a shit about the 330,000+ Americans who have died from the virus so far. Their Christianity teaches them other people’s lives aren’t worth protecting.
Both churches may face fines of up to $10,000 for violating local laws:
The violation carries a fine of up to $5,000 for violating the indoor maximum capacity of the current public health order in addition to $5,000 for violating the mask requirement.
The state’s Department of Health owes it to the people in the state to take those actions. Being Christian shouldn’t make them immune from following the law and threatening public safety.
These death cults are a large part of the reason the pandemic has continued as long as it has — and been as deadly. That’s what happens when you’re brainwashed into thinking eternal life is all that matters, therefore killing off people in this one is meaningless.
Such selfishness, ignorance, and utter disregard for human life from these despicable people. It’s infuriating that the rest of us have to suffer the consequences of their irresponsible actions.
