During a right-wing conference over the weekend, Mike Pence mocked Democrats for making the supposedly insane proposal to… help poor people:

“When we cut taxes, roll back regulations, and advance freedom, their agenda is higher taxes, open borders, [socialized] medicine, a Green New Deal, and abortion on demand,” Mr Pence told a crowd of activists from Turning Point USA, a conservative youth group. “They want to make rich people poorer, and poor people more comfortable. We have fought to make every American richer, and that’s exactly what we’ve done.”
The irony there is that higher taxes could fund schools (and higher education correlates with fewer abortions), affordable health care would make people less likely to have unwanted pregnancies, and a more sustainable planet would create less chaos for those who are living. But facts have never mattered to this crowd.
Since statistics won’t sway him, though, you would think the Bible could, given that the one things Pence is known for is his faith. If he ever opened up the book, he’d see Mary’s song from the Gospel of Luke, otherwise known as the Magnificat, which is also a popular reading in churches at Christmas.
Here’s a relevant excerpt:
[God] has shown the strength of his arm,
He has scattered the proud in their conceit. He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the humble. He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich He has sent away empty.
Sounds like the Democrats are the ones more in line with biblical values.
