Ukrainian Orthodox Church Leader Who Blamed COVID on Gay Marriage Now Has COVID

Sometimes, bad things happen to bad people.

Back in March, Patriarch Filaret of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church blamed the pandemic on gay marriage. He said in a TV interview that the virus was “God’s punishment for the sins of men, the sinfulness of humanity… I mean same-sex marriage.”

Someone that ignorant will likely ignore science-based precautions to avoid the virus. And wouldn’t you know it, the 91-year-old Filaret has now come down with the disease:

Filaret’s church, which is said to have more than 15 million followers among Ukraine’s 42 million population, confirmed the COVID-19 diagnosis in a Facebook post.

“We inform that during planned testing, His Holiness Patriarch Filaret of Kiev and All Rus-Ukraine tested positive for COVID-19,” the statement said. “Now His Holiness Bishop is undergoing treatment at a hospital.”

Times like this I wish I believed in karma…

In any case, because I’m not a monster, I hope he recovers. And then maybe he can finally issue an apology for spewing bigoted bullshit based on his religious beliefs. The less he talks, the better off everyone is.
