As I write this, there have been nearly 11,000 reported deaths due to COVID-19. More than 364,000 people have tested positive for the virus. Many people have been under lockdown for weeks.
But it wasn’t until today’s episode of The 700 Club that Pat Robertson decided Christians should come together to rebuke the “inert virus” so that it’s entirely gone by Easter.
… Do you realize what has happened? This is an inert virus, and we have cowered before this inert virus. It has destroyed our economy. It has put panic into our entire population. It’s disrupting all of our way of living. And it is closing the churches of Jesus Christ, and people are not able to go and worship together in their churches because of this bug.
And I think it is time for the church to go on the attack! Instead of just cowering in our cars and in our social distancing, I think it’s time that we stand up and speak the word of God and command that thing to leave us!
We have authority in the name of Jesus Christ as His servants. And the Bible says, “If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I’ll hear their prayer and forgive their sin and heal their land.”
And I believe it’s time that we speak out boldly and in all the churches, coming in to Easter in this holy week, I think it’s time in every congregation, instead of saying, “Oh, we’re gonna be COVID-sensitive or we’re gonna catch something,” let’s rebuke this thing in the name of Jesus! And I want you to pray with me right now. I just believe it is time to go on the attack! We are not supposed to be fearful!
“Fear not,” God said, “I’m with you. I’m gonna deliver you.”
We serve the God of Heaven and He’s certainly greater than the little bug. And this is an inert virus that is terrifying and destroying the whole economy and the society that we live in! Let’s not take it anymore!
Let’s not take it anymore. And I want you to pray in your churches, every church, instead of your — covering yourself and huddling and all that stuff — speak out. Pastors, everyone of you, in your churches, declare it! Declare the victory in the name of Jesus.
I ask you right now as we begin this program, you pray with me at this moment. We are going to rebuke this thing. We do not have to cower before an inert virus! Who ever heard of such a thing? We are God’s people! And this is a bug that is terrorizing our entire population.
We can’t let it happen. All the people, all the pastors, all across America, in your services, even if you have to speak in FM radio or speak to cars or whatever you do, declare it boldly! I want you to pray with me right now, “Father, in the name of Jesus, we come before You as the author of life, as the Creator of all life. Lord, this is Your universe. This is Your world. And Your people, God, have been terrorized by this inert virus. And so we come in the name of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit and we rebuke this thing! And we command it to leave our society and our land. And by the day of Easter, that there will be no more new cases of this coronavirus. In the name of Jesus, we speak that, and we declare it done in His name. Amen! And amen.
It’s not going away before Easter. It’s also not scared of this “rebuke.” That’s not how viruses work. It’s the equivalent of threatening atheists with Hell. You can’t scare us with something that means nothing to us.
If we’re anthropomorphizing it, then the virus is afraid of vaccines and social distancing. Let’s stick to that.
If Robertson really wants to defeat the virus, he should be encouraging the Trump administration to listen to scientists instead of FOX News personalities. But if you’re looking for Robertson to do something sensible, you’ll have to wait much longer.
