Ariana Grande’s New Song “God Is a Woman” Is Infuriating Some Christians

Conservatives aren’t always known for keeping their priorities straight: they get more upset over same-sex marriage and the “Holocaust” of abortion than, say, actual babies being ripped from their parents’ arms at the border.

You can now add “Freaking out about a pop song” to that list.

Singer Ariana Grande‘s new song “God is a Woman” is causing quite a stir on social media, with some religious people upset by the insinuation that God is literally female.

Of course, the song is less a theological statement than it is an empowerment anthem for women. The lyrics are obviously references to a woman’s sexuality — “when we’re done / You’ll believe God is a woman.” Are the critics seriously taking theology lessons from Grande? I doubt churches will be emptier as a result of a song that’s just fun to listen and dance to.

Plus, she has a point. As George Carlin once said, “If there is a God, I am convinced He is a He, because no woman could or would ever fuck things up this badly.”
