Heh Amanda, what i see in your post is a person working out what she really belives herself, which is great,we all need to know what we belive and why we belive it.When we have children we become much more aware at other influences in life and we become very protective, which is how it should be and sometimes a bit over-protective,its a bit of a balance and all depends on your own perspective. What i see is parents who were doing their best for you.Its a difficult and sometimes painful time as our children reach an age when they start leaving the nest and as a parent you see your kids doing things which you know as an adult could be disasterous for their health ,saftey ,future ,career whatever but you know you have to let them work it out ,this is where you are now and you never stop figgering out what life is about,it is life. You started your post talking about a “true scotsman”,what it sounds like to me was you learnt about your parents religion but was not your own, that is what your working out now which is good. You may never have your own faith again,or you may come back with a new understanding about faith but as long as you are asking the questions in life your growing as a human being, well done.
