Christian School Expels 8-Year-Old Girl Who Had a Crush on Another Girl

Rejoice Christian School in Oklahoma says on its website that its goal is “to be a Christian school that provides students with excellence in education and strength in character.”

And yet they may have just expelled an 8-year-old girl for the crime of… being a child.

Delanie Shelton told Fox23 that her daughter Chloe was kicked out of the school because she told a girl in her class she liked her.

That, of course, implies homosexuality, which implies sexual activity, which makes the Baby Jesus cry.

“[Chloe] said the vice principal sat her down and says the bible says you can only marry a man and have children with a man,” Shelton said. “My daughter was crying saying ‘Does God still love me?’”

Imagine being that cruel to a child for something so sweet.

But that wasn’t entirely the reason she was expelled.

Her harmless playground comment led administrators to have a Serious Discussion with her mother — and it was the mother’s response that was the tipping point. She said the vice principal asked her how she felt about “girls liking girls,” and Delanie said she was okay with it.

Wrong answer. At least among the bigot crowd.

The school has a policy that says same-sex relationships are “contrary to God’s word” (and that trans people don’t exist). You have to agree with the policy when enrolling your kids at the school, so parents who reveal they don’t actually share the school’s bigotry could have their kids expelled. This isn’t a legal issue. The Christian school is well within its rights to kick out children when their families don’t meet some insanely narrow definition of who stands in God’s good graces.

All that said, the school gets to pick and choose its battles.

They didn’t kick out a student whose mother was marching for marriage equality and urging others to join her; she’s not an activist. They kicked out a child whose mother wasn’t totally opposed to same-sex couples… all because her daughter told another girl she liked her.

The school didn’t have to go full bigot. They chose to because they’re just horrible people who think their belief in Jesus absolves them of needing basic human decency. In the process, they’ve given the world another example of why decent people should never send their kids to a private Christian school while making sure this girl grows up believing God hates her.

Shelton now has to deal with the fallout, saying the school “ripped” her kids away from their teachers and friends all due to “something my daughter probably doesn’t know or fully understand.”

Of course they did. Welcome to Christianity.

And yes, she said kids, plural. Her five-year-old son was also expelled because his mother isn’t a raging homophobe.
