Pastor Hospitalized for COVID: “We Have a Vaccine. The Name is Jesus Christ.” November 16, 2020

Pastor Hospitalized for COVID: “We Have a Vaccine. The Name is Jesus Christ.”

Just over a month ago, we learned that John Hagee, the senior pastor of Cornerstone Church in San Antonio, Texas, tested positive for COVID.

His son Matthew made the announcement at the time:

Notice that Matthew said his father was “receiving extremely good medical treatment.”

He’s lucky he can afford it. That’s not necessarily true of the congregation he’s putting in danger by hosting in-person, indoor, mask-optional, not-very-socially-distanced services.

Yesterday, the elder Hagee was back in church. He said he spent 15 days in the hospital with “double pneumonia” but he was better now. But you can see from the video below that the church hasn’t made any adjustments for COVID. It’s still in-person, indoor, jam-packed, and mask-optional.

What did Hagee have to say about COVID after his own fight with the disease?

As you’d expect, he didn’t tell anyone to take it seriously. Instead, he told them to just trust Jesus.

… I’m sitting in this chair today as a testimonial to the healing power of Jesus Christ. I spent 15 days in a hospital with double pneumonia, and I’m still supposed to be home gasping for air. I’m on this platform speaking of the glory of God, for the healing power of God.

… I bring under the authority of Jesus Christ every sickness and every disease and especially the COVID thing that’s sweeping this nation. We have a vaccine. The name is Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God. Let Him sweep through this country and heal the righteous who dare to ask for it. Heal our church members. Restore them rapidly. Let the name of Jesus Christ be exalted, because He is Lord over all…

So… did Hagee recover due to “extremely good medical treatment” or prayer?

Does he think church members should reject the vaccine options that we may soon have from Pfizer or Moderna and just rely on Jesus?

Did he tell the doctors to pray or take the drugs they gave him?

What about all the devout Christians who have died from COVID already — what did they do wrong?

How did Hagee even get COVID if he’s the guy with a direct line to Jesus?

Needless to say, the virus doesn’t give a damn about Jesus, and Jesus doesn’t have special powers to block the spread of COVID. By ignoring basic health precautions, Hagee is doing more to spread the virus than stopping it, and even his own hospitalization hasn’t changed his harmful rhetoric.
