Convinced (wrongfully) that Democrats are stealing the election, right-wing commentator Josh Bernstein, last seen calling for the execution of a congresswoman, is urging Donald Trump to do something “drastic” to halt democracy from functioning like a democracy.
“I think we need drastic — and I mean drastic — measures in order to change what’s going on,” Bernstein said. “The first thing I would do if I was President Trump is I would call the Insurrection Act in right now. The first thing you do is you quell all violence, and you stop all violence with the military or the National Guard. The second thing you do is declare martial law in the country right now, and you send in armed military and National Guard folks into every single one of these swing states where they are counting ballots, and you force them to stop counting ballots right then and there, and if not, they are taken away by the military and arrested.”
“The next thing we do is we end up having a situation where we do an immediate injunction to the Supreme Court,” he continued. “We make a ruling that says any vote that has been counted after the close of the polls on election night in that respective state, every vote that was counted after the polls closed, is null and void. One hundred percent. And then what you do — it’s very simple at this point — you either do one of two things: you either count the votes that you already have in to that point and determine your winner, or you get rid of the entire election — 100 percent, every state — you do a complete redo, and you have the election on January 3.”
Bernstein wants a civil war against democracy and reality.
To be clear, if vote-counting stopped right now, Democrats would win. The reason many states couldn’t count early votes before Election Day is because Republican lawmakers in those states prevented them from doing so… precisely so people like Trump and Bernstein could claim fraud down the road. You also can’t just tell the Supreme Court to weigh in on… math.
There is no evidence of voter fraud, except what we’ve seen from Republicans. Plenty of Republicans also voted by mail, by the way, as did the military, so discounting those ballots would hurt Trump as well as the troops.
Perhaps the strangest thing about the fraud claims is the implicit notion that Democrats pulled a fast one against Trump… but still decided to keep Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham and all those swing state GOP senators around. The same ballots that Republicans claim are sources of fraud were used to elect GOP members of Congress without any apparent problem. They didn’t cry foul after they won, did they?
Bernstein and others like him just can’t face the truth: Aside from being a reprehensible bigot, Trump’s own rhetoric against mail-in voting created this mess and arguably his loss. His botched handling of a deadly pandemic didn’t help, either.
The country has spoken: We don’t want him in charge anymore.
