Many Christians are starting to panic at the thought of four years in Blue Country (not sure what they find so terrifying about equal rights and affordable healthcare, but I digress). Among them is author Eddie Hyatt, who is hastily reminding his audience that Christian support for Joe Biden is completely irrational.
He specifically calls out preachers like John Piper, who didn’t give a full-throated endorsement of Donald Trump a couple of weeks ago, as if Piper’s hesitance suddenly caused them to vote for Biden. (There’s no evidence of that.)
Evangelical leaders like John Piper and Beth Moore warned evangelicals about voting for Donald Trump. Should they not, instead, have warned their followers about the Democrat Party’s official rejection of God and America’s founding values?
Sadly, the Democratic Party has rejected the God of the Bible and America’s founders. In 2019, for example, the Democrat National Committee (DNC) unanimously passed a resolution affirming atheism and declaring that neither Christianity nor any religion is necessary for morality or patriotism.
This should come as no surprise since the Democratic Party, for some time, has supported the removal of Ten Commandment displays, crosses and other Christian symbols from public property. When President Obama spoke at Georgetown University, a Catholic institution, he demanded that the Christian symbol behind the podium where he was to speak be removed.
Just about all of that is a lie. The “resolution” he’s referring to in one that simply acknowledged the “value, ethical soundness, and importance” of non-religious Americans. Hardly an affirmation of atheism. And Democrats aren’t randomly removing those religious displays; they’re upholding the Constitution which says governments must remain neutral on matters of religion. The Christian displays in question are promoting one religion at the expense of all others (and atheism), and that’s why they must come down. You would think someone who claims to respect the Constitution would know that. Christians are free to decorate their own yards with religious symbols (at the mercy of their HOA, at least), as well as believe whatever they want about morality.
Beyond all that, though, Hyatt doesn’t offer any evidence that Democrats are collectively non-religious… because that evidence doesn’t exist. (78% of Democrats currently in Congress are some kind of Christian.) While many atheists and agnostics are registered Democrats, the majority of the party is also Christian. And let’s not forget that Biden attended church more regularly this year — in the midst of a pandemic! — than Trump has in his entire life.
Hyatt also didn’t explain why making healthcare affordable, protecting everyone’s civil rights, and welcoming refugees are somehow antithetical to American values. His biggest problem appears to be that Democrats acknowledge that Christians aren’t the only citizens who matter in America and support the principle of church/state separation.
The party that stood by and did nothing while its leaders tore families apart, put children in cages, and lied about a deadly virus has no right to claim a monopoly on morality. Let’s never forget that.
