During a debate earlier this month, Republican Senator Lindsey Graham made headlines when he claimed Black people could achieve anything they wanted… but only if they shared his views. He said this during a debate against his African American opponent Jamie Harrison, who’s running a stellar campaign and made this a closer race than anyone could’ve imagined a year ago.
Now Graham is doing it again, saying women can achieve anything they want… unless they dare to be liberal.
Sen. Lindsey Graham says Amy Coney Barrett shows young women can go anywhere in America "if you are pro-life, if you embrace your religion and you follow traditional family structure."

He referenced Justice Amy Coney Barrett while saying this:
You know what I like about Judge Barrett? She’s got everything! She’s [not just] wicked smart. She’s incredibly good. She embraces her faith. I want every young woman to know there’s a place for you in America if you’re pro-life, if you embrace your religion, and you follow traditional family structure, that you can go anywhere, young lady.
It also helps when Republicans make a last-ditch power grab to install you on the Court before a majority of Americans takes that power away from them…
Graham is also lying. Not only can women go further when there are fewer restrictions on their lives, Barrett is an exception and not a rule for conservatives. They’re fine with her having power because they know she’ll use it to prevent other women from achieving success — by forcing them to give birth against their will and by limiting their ability to attain fair treatment in the workplace.
The fact remains: If you’re a woman looking to get ahead in whatever life path you choose, you’ll have fewer obstacles when progressive people are in charge. You won’t have to overcome sexist religious traditions or the kinds of legal barriers that conservatives promote. There are still barriers, no doubt, but there are far more in conservative religious circles. You would think Graham knows this, given the relatively few Republican women in Congress, much less in leadership roles within his party.
Fuck Lindsey Graham. I’m pro-choice, an atheist, and consider myself untraditional. There’s a place for me right here – fighting old white conservatives like him. https://t.co/1qXb1OEXm9

But Graham is a professional liar. What he said shouldn’t be surprising. He’ll say anything for more political power. The past few years have made that perfectly clear and it’s why he’s on the verge of losing his seat.
