But why did he get the virus at all?
According to right-wing radio hosts Dave Kistler and Gary Dull — obviously the experts on all things pandemic-related — this was just part of God’s plan in order to show people the power of hydroxychloroquine.
The duo made the comments on the American Pastors Network’s “Stand In The Gap” radio show this week, propping up the Trump-backed drug even though there’s no evidence it helps people who have the virus.
“Why did the Lord cause, allow, or direct Louie to get it?” Dull wondered. “The Lord allowed Louie to get it maybe to show people what truth looks like and how to deal with this COVID-19. And I think that truth be told, we are seeing that in the way Louie has responded to that and how God is working in his life and what he’s saying about it to the American public.”
“I think your point Gary is one that’s well made,” Kistler replied, “Why would God allow that to happen to him? I think maybe the Lord allowed that because the Lord knew that Louie was going to respond appropriately, correctly, truthfully, courageously, and he has certainly done all of those things. I think he’s a shining example, not only of firm reliance on the God of Heaven, but also he’s a great example of common sense with respect to this drug that has been so maligned.”
Never before has anyone used the phrase “a great example of common sense” to describe Gohmert.
In any case, here’s a fun, inconvenient fact: COVID doesn’t affect everybody equally. Some people, like Gohmert, may be lucky enough to experience mild, non-life-threatening symptoms. Others end up fighting for their lives, if they don’t lose them altogether. There’s growing evidence that coronavirus can leave people with permanent lung problems, along with other issues.
It’s blatantly irresponsible, not to mention dangerous, to promote a drug that medical experts do not recommend for treatment. If Gohmert is getting medical advice from Donald Trump, he’s damn lucky to still be alive.
